5.0 out of 5 stars Dead On Arrival Going Places on Bestseller list!
I just bought Dead On Arrival, having read all the other books in the series. This is the sixth mystery that medical insurance fraud investigator Pauline Slokol works on; this one discusses issues of ambulance billing fraud. The great characters and interesting plot make this up and coming author, Lori Avacato, as excellant as Janet Evanovitch. I would recommend this cosy...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best in the series
I have loved the whole series, but I think this one falls short of the previous five. I do hope that the series continues though, (haven't heard about a next book) but without the Dano character. I love Jagger, and I'm getting a little irritated by Pauline (the "Oh...my...God" is getting a little tiresome) and her cluelessness where Jagger is concerned (as I write this, I...

4.0 out of 5 stars I love this series!, April 1, 2008
This review is from: Dead on Arrival (Pauline Sokol Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this series - although I don't like Dano the new character they introduced (hoping he is dropped because I love Jagger) I liked the story. I cannot wait for her next one- be sure to read these in order and start with one or you might be a hair bit lost. She drops people in a drop of the hat so you have to watch that book to book. (Not that I liked the other guy who I won't name in case you haven't read it) I wish she would write faster!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another thrilling adventure in the Pauline Sokol mysteries., December 6, 2007
This review is from: Dead on Arrival (Pauline Sokol Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
As an insurance fraud investigator, Pauline Sokol is use to falling back on her nursing background to get her case solved and her current case is no different. When the mysterious Jagger hands Pauline her sixth case, to investigate Tender Loving Care of reports of bilking the insurance companies out of millions of dollars, she knows it will take all the knowledge she has to solve the biggest case she has ever had.

While Pauline and Jagger work together to get the information they need, Pauline's attention is diverted between the baffling Jagger and the hunky ER Dano until her boss Payne ends up murdered at Pauline's feet, and she starts getting threatening phone calls from the killer. Can Pauline get this case solved before the killer gets to her? Or will her attraction to Dano be too much of a distraction for her to her focus?

Dead on Arrival by Lori Avocato is another thrilling adventure in the Pauline Sokol mysteries.

Pauline is a great character that readers can relate to and enjoy as she learns more investigating skills with each case. There is plenty of humor to be found throughout this story with Pauline's bumbling that gives it that extra bit of excitement.

Lori Avocato has done a great job in creating a story with the perfect mix of details, colorful characters and mystery that makes this book a perfect read for a hot summer's day.

5.0 out of 5 stars A High Flying Mystery, August 27, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dead on Arrival (Pauline Sokol Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
Author Lori Avocato has bumped the sexual tension up with the introduction of a second hottie to the storyline. Plus Pauline's mother has gotten a little unpredictable. Too bad her grandfather didn't really make an appearance in this one.
I like the way Pauline is becoming more confident in her abilities as an investigator. You can't be a bumbling beginner forever. I'll definitely be reading the next one.

I have loved the whole series, but I think this one falls short of the previous five. I do hope that the series continues though, (haven't heard about a next book) but without the Dano character. I love Jagger, and I'm getting a little irritated by Pauline (the "Oh...my...God" is getting a little tiresome) and her cluelessness where Jagger is concerned (as I write this, I am shaking my head - two times - not good in the Jagger world). I really think there is a lot more to be explored where Jagger is concerned. Having said this, I do recommend the series, and suggest the books be read in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hmm, a new guy introduced to Pauline. Triangle!, June 30, 2007
This review is from: Dead on Arrival (Pauline Sokol Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
Pauline Sokol has her sixth insurance [...] case from Scarpello & Tonelli Insurance Agency and it requires her to don the hated scrubs again. Pauline likes for her feet to be planted firmly on the ground; so she is NOT thrilled to learn that she is going undercover as an RN for the land-and-air ambulance company called TLC. TLC has been doing some serious high billing, in the millions, since the nephew and his sister took it over.

Pauline has become used to Jagger's surprises, so Pauline is only slightly fazed when she learns that Jagger is an actual paramedic and on the case with her. But the paramedic Pauline spends most of her work time with, and some personal time too, is "ER Dano". Dano is the company's best (and hottest!) paramedic. Dano is also burned out, but refuses to change his twenty-one year career.

Things become dicey when one of the company's owners is murdered and the killer begins telephoning Pauline. But Pauline has got to wonder just which is more lethal, the killer or the patients she is sent out to rescue.

***** Pauline may still be single, but her personal life is definitely perking up. Jagger has nicknamed Pauline "Sherlock", but Dano has also christened Pauline with a nickname, "Nightingale". Both nicknames are extremely fitting for the ex-RN.

Lori Avocato has penned another saga for mystery fans to test their wits against. Funny, exciting, realistic, and totally irresistible! *****

4.0 out of 5 stars lighthearted insurance investigation tale, July 3, 2007
This review is from: Dead on Arrival (Pauline Sokol Mysteries) (Mass Market Paperback)
As a former registered nurse, Scarpello & Tonelli Insurance Agency investigator Pauline Sokol is unhappy with her newest assignment. She is going undercover as a RN at TLC, a land-and-air ambulance company, which has recently had an incredible increase in charges since the nephew and niece took over from their uncle. Making matters worse to Pauline who left the medical world due to burnout is that much of the job is in the air.

As Pauline adjusts to flying time, she is not shocked to find the enigmatic Jagger working as an undercover paramedic. However, the employee who has her flying is TLC's most experienced medic bone weary "ER Dano". The case takes a wild spin when a homicide occurs and the proud killer telephones Pauline, who wonders if she is on a hit list by the culprit or by some crazy patients.

The latest Pauline caper (see NIP, TUCK, DEAD) has her in trouble on the job and in her personal life. The two hunks have pet names for perilous Pauline as Jagger calls her "Sherlock" and Dano "Nightingale". The case is fun to follow, but it is the romances that add the depth to the latest lighthearted insurance investigation of Pauline Sokol, ex RN still working as an undercover RN.
