Title: Dead Broke
Author: Trista Russell

Let's talk about a woman on the edge. Trista Russell reintroduces
readers to the young, sexy and carefree Sarai Emery, from Going
Broke. Picking up where Going Broke ended, Sarai is recovering in
the hospital. Her friend, Nat, is there to support her and of course,
Tremel; but wait - she does not remember Tremel or how she ended up
in the hospital. Sarai has amnesia. All she wants to do is to
return to her life with her boyfriend, Damian. Tremel is madly in
love with Sarai and he desperately wants her to remember what they
shared before the incident.

After she is released from the hospital, Nat and Tremel decide not to
tell Sarai how she ended up in the hospital. As her memory returns,
Sarai does not like what she remembers and she is faced with some
difficult decisions. Sex, scandal, secrets, mystery, romance, and
tons of drama are revealed.

Dead Broke will definitely keep you turning pages to see what will
happen next to Sarai and Tremel. Some of the events were just a bit
too coincidental for this reader but they helped to move the story
along. At various points, you will just want to smack some sense into
Sarai. You will fall in love with the character, Tremel, as he
struggles to remain faithful to Sarai. Fans of Trista Russell will
not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trista Russell has raised the bar a little bit higher with this one!, January 13, 2008
This review is from: Dead Broke (Paperback)
Now, this is what I call a Sequel! I was not disappointed at all. It was certainly worth the wait. Sarai was off the meter. She is such a trip! (lol) That Ho had so much drama going on in this book, I'm surprised my boy Tremel didn't tell her where to go and how to get there. Well, maybe he did!!!!! You have to read this sequel to Going Broke. Trista is so very creative. I couldn't have dreamed up some of the stories she came up with to make this book just as good as her other 3 books. She is definitely on a roll. We want more! We want more! Love Ya Girl. Keep on keeping on! You are the Best!

I like Trista's work and have enjoyed all her previous novels up to this point, but I was disappointed with "Dead Broke." Much of "Dead Broke" hinges on what happened in "Going Broke." In reading, I felt like Sarai wasn't the only one with amnesia as I couldn't remember many of the events referenced. I just had to go with the flow and hoped both our memories would return before the book ended. There was plenty of drama, maybe too much. I'm all for drama, twists and turns, but it seemed that quite often this book was reaching and taking things to the extreme. With amnesia comes a change in sexuality? Some of the decisions and directions this novel took had me scratching my head and asking why. And with every question and shake of my head, I came to the same conclusion - this sequel shouldn't have been made. Some stories are too good to mess up with a mediocre sequel or one that doesn't remain true to its previous storyline and characters. The amnesia concept was different, interesting and had possibilities, but this just didn't get it.

On the plus side, Trista did turn up the heat and delivered some sexy, steamy scenes. I also enjoyed the poetry sprinkled here and there. Despite my disappointment, I'm looking forward to more from Trista Russell. She's a talented storyteller.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but . . . ., January 18, 2008

While I thought this book was good, I was a little disappointed in Sarai. Even though she had amnesia, I couldn't understand her attraction to Syd. Mel was great but a little "too good to be true". Come on. Would a real brother, forgive all of what she did. I don't think so

In the end, it was entertaining and dripped with passion, especially the scene with Craig.

5.0 out of 5 stars Same Old Sarai (4.5 Stars), March 3, 2008

This review is from: Dead Broke (Paperback)
I'm an admitted Trista Russell fan, Going Broke was my first read by Trista and it was so enjoyable that I went on to read all of her subsequent books. With that being said I was very eager to read the sequel Dead Broke. While in confession mode I also have to admit that while I loved Going Broke I actually detested the lead character Sarai Emery. I found her to be snobbish, self-centered and materialistic. But by the end of Going Broke and as a true testament to Trista's storytelling skills, she had me pulling for Sarai and I for one needed to know whether she lived or died.

In Dead Broke we find Sarai waking from a month long coma with amnesia, unable to recall the past 10 months of her life. And honestly if I was Sarai I would've wanted to forget the last 10 months as well. A cheating fiancée, back-stabbing girlfriend, ailing father, and a depleting bank account all led Sarai to begin working as an escort. But the love a good man (Tremel) instead of self-love got Sarai back on track. Waking up from her coma Sarai doesn't remember Tremel or her life in the fast lane. Re-emerging is the old Sarai making foolish choices and even worse not remembering past enemies.

Enemies who are still plotting on Sarai for her past indiscretions. Who are also exposing all of her dirty secrets to Tremel who's trying to patiently wait for Sarai to remember him. As her memory slowly begins drifting in Sarai doesn't like the things she's learning about herself. It's not too late to make a positive change or is it? Her enemies are getting closer and Tremel is pulling farther away, which provided a very intriguing sub-plot.

Trista did a wonderful job revising Sarai, Tremel and Nat's characters and developing newcomers Charlize and Syd. But having Craig from Fly on The Wall materialize as one of Sarai's neighbors actually thrilled me the most. With Dead Broke Trista manages to give readers a good sequel highlighting Sarai's much needed growth while still managing to throw in
tons of twists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead Broke...The Mind Is A Terrible Thing to Lose...., February 28, 2008

Sarai Emery is back. Only Sarai, she was shot by her man Damian. When she wakes up out of her coma, a huge chunk of her memory is missing. Sarai still thinks she is in love with Damian, not remembering what he did to her, she also doesn't remember what she did for money or her new love Tremel Colton.
Tremel is determined to stick by Sarai's side until she remembers him. In the meantime he moves in with a sexy new landlord and things get hot and heavy.
Sarai who is trying her best to peice her life together makes bad choice after bad choice. Sarai gets in some dangerous and freaky situations. Hopefully she will come to her senses and her memory will return before she is not only BROKE but dead!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Going,Going,Gone!, January 24, 2008

Sarai and Tremel seemed to be just getting on the right track in going broke. When Damian shoots Sarai and leaves her in a ten month coma leaving her with no memory of the last ten months of her life, beginning Dead Broke. Tremel is torn losing his up and coming music career and losing the woman he loved. Tremel tries to make new memories with Sarai and make her remember their love for each other. This book also brings back some old enemies and a few new ones that come at both Sarai and Tremel and make their reuniting nearly impossible. I love the story and all the Miami references since that is my hometown. Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead On!, January 23, 2008
This review is from: Dead Broke (Paperback)
Dead Broke is dead on! Trista captivates and maintains the reader's interest and imagination from the first sentence. Trista's ability to deliver a sequel that readers do not necessarily have to read Going Broke initially to follow, speaks volumes about Trista's talent. Trista's ability to create realistic characters with realistic problems that her readers can relate to, along with the "messages" that she conveys in her novels, makes Trista one of the best writers in the industry. I can confidently say this because I am an advid reader. I'll be the first to admit that I don't normally read "chic books", but Sarai, Tremel, and the other colorful characters that Trista has created can easily be a sister, brother, best friend, or neighbor; all people that readers can and do relate to on a daily basis. In this advid reader's opinion, Trista Russell has delivered another best seller again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms.Russell does it again!!, January 23, 2008

This review is from: Dead Broke (Paperback)
Sarai is back from her near death experience, after being shot by her ex boyfriend Damian. When she comes out of her ten month coma she can only remember what happened from that point. Tremel who was wrongly accused of shooting Sarai has now lost everything even the woman since she doesn't remember them having a relationship. They must build a new relationship and try to forget the horrible past yet remember the good thoughts. The book brings in people from Sarai's past who want revenge and even though they remember her she can't remember them making their plans even better. Not her best book but I gave it four stars and an extra star for all the Miami references since that's my hometown too! Can't wait for her next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Knew?!, January 7, 2008
This review is from: Dead Broke (Paperback)
Amnesia?! As if I hadn't been up and down the roller-coaster of a love life between Tremel and Sarai enough. LOL I absolutely LOVED the twist this story took on. Not only did I fall even deeper in love with Tremel's character, but he became "human" this time around by making his own set of mistakes. (cause truthfully, I had put him on a pedestal...he could do NO wrong!!) And poor Sarai...with her memory slowly returning, mixed in with her current foolishness it was bound to be PLENTY of the drama that I yearn for in Trista's books. I was ecstatic to see that Tremel & Sarai's love prevailed in the end. HATS OFF!! Blessings & Respect...
