Ann Rule, step aside! There's a new true crime King in town!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dead And Buried: A Shocking Account of Rape, Torture, and Murder on the California Coast (Paperback)
With only his second true crime book, Corey Mitchell has officially supplanted Ann Rule as the leading voice of true crime. Mitchell's incredibly detailed book on the Rex Krebs murder case is fascinating and provides a much needed breath of fresh air in what has become an increasingly stale genre. There are so many levels to this book that it will stay with you for weeks after you have closed it. Rape, abuse, lax parole reviews, personal safety, and alcoholism are just some of the few topics discussed here. And to top it off, Mitchell has written the first truly scary true crime book in years. I found myself awake at 4:00 AM two nights in a row while reading and could not go to sleep. This truly tragic story needs to be read by everyone. And DEAD AND BURIED should be receiving all kinds of attention and awards. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book now!!

Best true crime I've read in a long time,

This review is from: Dead And Buried: A Shocking Account of Rape, Torture, and Murder on the California Coast (Paperback)
I have been looking for a good true crime book for a long time. Something I could really get into and not want to put down. I didn't get a good book.....what I got was a great book. Well written it kept me interested from start to finish. I have read so much nonsense that I was begining to wonder if anyone would ever write another good true crime. Mr. Mitchell explained the story in such a way that in some instances you could feel what was about to happen. While I have no sympathy for Rex Krebs, I feel his parents should be sitting next to him on death row. In my opinion, it was the two of them who helped create the monster in Rex Krebs. It's a cautionary tale for women that the boogeyman does exist and he could be around the bend or outside your window.

Dead and Buried is the best true crime book I have ever read. Corey Mitchell's easy to read style of writing and extensive research made this a book I could not put down. He gave you detailed and interesting background information on Krebs as well as the police interrogations. This book reads like a novel, and you feel like you get to know Krebs as well as the victims and their families. I highly recommend this book whether you are a true crime reader or not!

Worth the Read!!!,

This review is from: Dead And Buried: A Shocking Account of Rape, Torture, and Murder on the California Coast (Paperback)
It took me a few hours to read this book from cover to cover and I thought it was very well written and easy enough to follow. The story is about the events leading up to and around the disappearance of two young women (different times) and the man who brutally raped and murdered them. It is a truly gruesome and sad account of what went on in their last moments as well as an overview of Rex Kreb`s life as a child through to serial killer. However, the only loose end in it I felt was the part the writer wrote about another "female student" going missing around the same time, but has never been found since. I feel this was irrelevant and not linked to Rex Kreb so should have been ommitted all together. Other than that it is interesting to read it from a psychological perspective as I found the comments provided by the psychiatrists` used in the trial very informative and educational in regards to the definitions of sexual sadism and anti social disorder personality. Brilliant read although I really feel for the victims and their families.I hope that they know that there is still alot of good out there....

The most gripping true crime account I've read....,
By K. Brent (Orange County, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dead And Buried: A Shocking Account of Rape, Torture, and Murder on the California Coast (Paperback)
I read this book about a year ago and remember how graphic and how frightening (yet how mesmerizing!) it was ... I finished it over a weekend, and I couldn't get the story out of my mind for a long time. Mr. Mitchell is one of the best writers of this genre to come along in a while---I'm certain that any regular reader of True Crime will recognize his unique, gripping style. This book is very well researched, with a good selection of relevant photos, and it will allow you to follow the murderer's turbulent life up to his graphic crimes. The author's description of Rex Krebs reveals a twisted and self-destructive sexual deviant who recognized his evil tendencies (and appeared to want to stop fulfilling his urges), yet he never seemed to avoid acting out his fantasies. Certainly, Krebs received his just reward for his crimes, but it was still a very sad event in the lives of the many, many close friends and families involved. This is definitely a must-have for any True Crime buffs!

Corey Mitchell obviously did his homework. Being from the Central Coast where these horrific murders took place I can tell you that Mr. Mitchell did an excellent job in his description of the scenes of the crime and other surrounding areas. A highly recommended book if you love true crime.

A Great Book!!,

This review is from: Dead And Buried: A Shocking Account of Rape, Torture, and Murder on the California Coast (Paperback)
I worked very closely on the Rex Krebs case and was duly impressed with Mr. Mitchell's excellent book "Dead & Buried". The murders of the two girls had faded from many people's memories here in SLO, however, this book will keep their memories alive forever. Mitchell does an expert job explaining exactly who these girls were and how special they were to so many people. He also takes an in-depth look at what may or may not have created such a monster as Rex Krebs.
If you want a true crime book that reads like a brilliant mystery novel, is loaded with facts and is a literary feast, "Dead & Buried" is the book for you. Great job!!

Capote, Bugliosi, Rule, and Mitchell,

What a fantastic book told with a masterful flair by the king of modern true crime writing. Corey Mitchell belongs on the upper tier of true crime greats like Ann Rule, Vincent Bugliosi, and Truman Capote. He's that good!!!!!!! Dead and Buried is the story of a monster named Rex Krebs from California who liked to rape young women, was paroled ten years early off a twenty year sentence from prison, and who went on to become a degenerate serial killer who terrorized the lovely coastal college town of San Luis Obispo. His unfortunate victims included two twenty-year-old college girls, Rachel Newhouse and Aundria Crawford. These poor girls lives were ended tragically by this monster Krebs. What makes the book so fascinating is that you really come to understand and know why Rex Krebs did the horrible things he did. And that is what any true crime book is supposed to do. Help to understand the root cause of evil that lurks behind the normal, everyday faces of these men (and sometimes women). Some readers complain that the book does not read like a mystery novel. Well, it's not a novel, it's real life. True crime books are more about dissecting the serial killers and figure out what makes them tick. Dead and Buried goes deeper into the killer's psyche than most all other true crime books. And frankly, I think Mitchell does spin a tale of mystery just not a whodunit. If you want that, go buy some fiction. After I read this book I immediately went out and purchased Murdered Innocents also by the author and it was also excellent. I am so excited to read his newest book Evil Eyes on the Coral Watts case. If it's anywhere near as good as Dead and Buried or Murdered Innocents it will surely be another masterpiece.
