Editorial Reviews

Review

''The second 'Dead' thriller is a great romantic suspense that grips the audience from the moment the protagonists begin to learn of the assault on Powell and never lets go as the climax diabolically leads to the next unpublished tale. The lead pair is a terrific coupling . . . However, what makes Dead by Morning super is the serial killer, who will be considered one of the vilest of the year.'' --Mystery Gazette

Praise for the works of Beverly Barton:

''Masterful!'' --Linda Howard, New York Times bestselling author on Cold Hearted

''A powerful story that kept me up very late--with all the lights on.'' --Kay Hooper, New York Times bestselling author on As Good as Dead

Praise for Dead by Morning:

''The popular and dependable Barton has again created an intricately plotted, thoroughly engrossing serial killer tale that satisfactorily resolves the current dilemmas but leaves a stunning cliff-hanger.'' --Library Journal --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Dead By Morning" June 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Dead By Morning is the second book in a trilogy. Dead By Midnight is the first book. I would recommend reading Dead By Midnight. In addition, I would also recommend The Murder Game. The Murder Game goes into details about how FBI agent Nicole Baxter and Griffin met while working a case together.

In Dead By Morning, there are two plots going on simultaneously. Both plots are linked to the Powell Agency. One is about a copycat carver killer whose mimic psychopath Jerome Browning. Browning is a carver serial killer who had plea bargained to avoid the death penalty. Jerome Browning had murdered Maleah's former college boyfriend. The copycat carver killer is methodically precise and organized. In the other plot, a serial killer is targeting families of Powell Agency employees, and killed a Powell agent. Griffin Powell believes the killer is someone from his own past who is trying to destroy him and everyone he loves. Griffin put his long-time friend Sanders, who shared his past, in charge of the case.

Maleah Purdue works for the Powell Private Security Agency as an agent. Derek Lawrence is a former FBI profiler. He was hired as a consultant. Griffin Powell assigned Maleah and Derek to investigate the copycat murders. They work well together as a team, although Maleah disliked Derek when they first met. Derek sees Maleah as a challenge. They act as if they don't like each other, but under the veneer they have bonded.

Beverly Barton did an excellent job of weaving the two storylines and the characters into a thriller novel. The last chapter in Dead By Morning has a suspenseful climax with unanswered questions. The final book in the trilogy, Dead By Nightfall, will be released on November 29th 2011.

Beverly Barton passed away. My condolence to her family. MS. Barton will be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me awake to morning May 9, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Again, a excellent book by Beverly Barton. My only regret is not knowing that it was a cliffhanger. But, now I anticipate the next book even more. If you have never read a Beverly Barton book, don't you think it is time to start? I have all her books and have never read one I did not like.

3.0 out of 5 stars Start his series from the beginning May 17, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I need to clarify the 3 star rating for this one, I have not read the 11 books prior in this series and I think that may have been essential. There are alot of references that I think the reader already knows if he/she has been following the series. This book was lengthy, it had a long start up and it was hard for me to get "invovled" with the characters. I found myself not too fond of the main investigative team and the "original" bad guy reminded me of Hannibal Lector, just creepy! It has some twists and turns, but I would recommend reading from the beginning of this series.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good suspense and not a good romance ...
Dead by Morning has to be one of the most tedious & unsatisfying books I've read in a while. It fell flat as a pancake both as a suspense and as a romance. Read more
