A Real Man's Lunch Box,

I have been searching in town for some time for a lunch box large enough for my husband. Even during the school shopping season I was never able to locate one large enough to put at least two disposable plastic dishes in and most won't even hold one.
While we have not tested the full storage limits of this lunch box yet we have found it will hold one large and one medium container or two medium and one small container in the bottom section. The top is large enough for several pieces of fruit and some chips. The construction is very good. The zippers heavy duty and the fabric appears to be of very good quality. You will need blue ice if you plan to leave items in the box until lunch time as it will not maintain temperature by itself. While we have not filled the lunch box fully yet, we plan to take it with us to hold drinks on future car trips.

The "Dead On Killer Chiller" is the best! I was looking for something for my husband who is a construction foreman. He packs big lunches, and the lunchbox needed to be able to withstand the dust and harsh conditions of a huge job site. This baby does everything I wanted! He can pack his containers of food in the lower compartment, and keep his utensils, napkins, chips, and more up top in their own compartment. It's super rugged and has held up beautifully under tough conditions. It is bigger and holds more than it first looks upon unpacking. I filled his with air pillow packs used for mailing for a weekend to completely plump it up and settle the lining in, and that worked wonderfully. It now holds its shape on it's own and he gets maximum space useage out of it. I will not only recommend this item, I will be buying another one if and when my husband ever needs another one, although at the rate this one is holding up, that won't be for a loooong time!

I bought this lunch bag for my work where I am a desk jockey. So this is not a bag exposed to the elements. Just a nice even temperate 75 degreed office.
The bag is made of some heavy duty nylon and feels like it would hold up well to just about anything. Although it does not show it, this bag has a top and bottom compartment. I believe that the bottom can be used to hold ice packs as well as food. The top is more for fruit and smaller items. Overall, I've found that this bag holds everything that I bring to work. And I tend to bring lots of tupperware like items to work. If you're bringing a salad, an entree, a bowl, a fork, some fruit and maybe another snack, this holds it just fine. And if you buy from Amazon and don't like this one, you can return it. Don't buy from Ebags through Amazon as they won't exchange your purchase if you don't like it. I got burned on that one and warn you to watch out.

If you are into protecting food from bears (or hungry co-workers not good w/ zippers), this lunch sack is the one for you.
I never thought I'd complain that something is TOO durably made, but this lunch sack is overkill. The zippers are massive and the material is way too heavy. The (unnecessary) material added extra weight/bulk that made this too difficult to put inside my (large) backpack with other necessities such as books and a laptop. I can see how something like this would be beneficial for construction-type, workers as an alternative to the plastic coolers some use to carry food, however.

I've had the bag for about 6 weeks now and it's working out great. I use the bottom compartment to carry my lunch and the top for my wallet, book, gloves etc.
The only problem is that the liner of the top compartment has ripped at both ends where the wire frame, which makes the bag sturdy and holds it open, folds... The liner isn't flexible enough to fold like that so it cracks and then rips. I doubt I'll ever use the top compartment as a cooler anyhow, so I still love the bag - I'll probably remove the liner or patch it with gaffer tape sometime.

I'm not a young person, but this is my first lunch cooler. I've carried the oldschool "lunch bucket" to work for 29 years, but I dropped my old one once too many times. They don't exist at reasonable prices any more.
This is a nice sized cooler, large enough to give you the option of carrying small frozen dinners or Tupperware containers, and gives me enough room to carry small magazines for my breaks. The footprint is barely larger than my old workman's lunch bucket. I'm really enjoying having the extra room in my cooler. Now,if someone sells me a can of Turtles or some other thing at work I can generally find room for it in there. The only defect I found in it was a pulled thread in the shoulder strap, which is just a cosmetic fault. It was shipped smashed flat, took a little time with a hair dryer to bring it back into shape.

I've owned this and used it every day (sometimes on weekends) for two years now. Keep in mind that this carrier has two compartments, an upper and a lower. Some boxes don't. Here are the pros and cons:
PROS: - Plenty of space inside. I mean PLENTY. It can hold an amazing amount of stuff packaged in odd-shaped containers, and still have space for a couple chill blocks. Even when I carry a big lunch plus a small evening carry-over meal to get me through a very long overtime day, it still has space for a little more. - Space above for a small Stanley thermos, plus a couple bananas, plus my Kindle in its case. Yes, I take my Kindle to work with me and want to keep it both hidden and with me, and therefore a bit safer from theft. - Keeps stuff acceptably cold until about 2PM, considering it's packed at about 7AM. A can of pop or a bottle of iced tea is an enigma, though: they never seem to stay cold, and seem to suck the cold out of everything else. - It worked great for about a year and a half. Kept stuff cold, stood up well to minor bumps and bangs. If you are hard on a cooler and replace yours periodically, this is the one to get. It WILL stand up to a beating. CONS: - Needs some kind of support inside the bottom if you want it to keep its shape. I carry a Stanley 16 oz thermos in the top, and over time, it has squished the bottom all out of shape. The front remained pretty much the same height, but the back has squished down about an inch and a half. If you put enough stuff in the bottom to hold it up, it comes back to shape but won't remain there after stuff is removed. Sitting on the counter, it reminds me a bit of Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, slumped over sadly. - Even though both compartments are roomy, if you're going to carry a thermos of coffee in the top, you'll need to buy a Stanley 16oz thermos. The bigger sizes won't fit. But you could carry TWO if you wanted; there's that much room in it. - The liner is depolymerizing (getting stiff) and coming apart everywhere it has been folded. The zippers catch on the liner and make it difficult to close. The underneath insulation layers are now exposed along the zipper runs. - The liner can be cut or punctured by your sharp knife that you brought to cut up that chunk of leftover roast that you brought for lunch today. Put the knife in something or use a guard. - Another comment on the liner. It's easy to wash, but you have to remember to push firmly enough to get into all the folds that build up over time. - I find the front compartment that's supposed to be for flatware to be totally useless. It is made of a mesh that allows dirt and dust to get on your eating utensils. Yuck. - At this two-year-to-the-day mark, it doesn't keep stuff as cold as it used to. I'm going to be replacing it this month. CONCLUSIONS: Worth the money, especially if you're hard on your lunch box. It has LOTS of space, doesn't scratch, and looks good for a fairly long time. Keeps stuff cold as long as the internal liner remains intact. Overall durability is not as good as it should be.

My hubby loves this bag. He has to pack at least 2 meals plus snacks every day and this holds everything he needs. I like the two compartments because I can put more fragile things in the top and sturdy items like soda cans and plastic containers in the bottom. My only complaint is that it takes up a LOT of room in my fridge, so we either have to allocate space for it or pack the bag in the morning before work. Other than that, it is perfect!

Not the Greatest,

This lunch box is bigger and much clumsier then I expected. The zipped mesh pocket in front is much too small to hold anything with any real bulk (like a cell phone)and is hard to get in to. While the 2 separate food compartments seemed like a nice idea when I bought this, in reality it doesn't really well for me.
Would have rather have larger mesh pockets on the outside to hold a drink bottle (or 2) and only one good size compartment for the food. |
