4.0 out of 5 stars good band + good album - the good song = "The Dead And Dreaming"
Today I was in FYE just looking for some stuff to add to my collection and I came across DKL. I had remembered the advance release that I had gotten. I didnt know the name of the tracks at the time that I bought the album, so I bought it anyway, came home and put it in the stereo. I listened to the last track because the last track from the advance release of this album...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nowhere near tDSoN
Ok, what I'm writing here are just my first impressions of the album. The recording quality doesn't seem to be as good as it was on The Darker Side of Nonsense, which never really bothers me, but I'm sure some people don't like that. I honestly think Cliff's singing ability dropped since tDSoN. I will say, the lyrics seem pretty good, but they don't seem to be put out...

Today I was in FYE just looking for some stuff to add to my collection and I came across DKL. I had remembered the advance release that I had gotten. I didnt know the name of the tracks at the time that I bought the album, so I bought it anyway, came home and put it in the stereo. I listened to the last track because the last track from the advance release of this album (track no. 11 called "hindsight") was probably the best track on the album. track 11 on the retail release of this album "No Reason" was different. I was a mad about that, but not to change my view because the rest of the album is still good but "hindsight" made this album. I recommend anyone to check that song out if you can find it.

Boston's very own Hinge, after years of dicking around, changed thier name to Dry Kill Logic and released "The Darker Side Of Nonsense" on Roadrunner Records. A whole lotta people called it Nu-metal, and to be fair it had it's affectionate moments with bands like System Of A Down and whatnot. But to be even more fair, DKL (then and now) has a lot more in common with groups like Prong. "TDSON" was raw, pushy and angry... Not to mention juvenile, simplistic and headbanging. Traits that reminisced everything from Chaos A.D.-style Sepultura to Helmet and back again. This new release from Dry Kill Logic, on a new label after being tossed from Roadrunner, ain't too bad. To be honest halfway through the disc I did feel like I was in the middle of a alterna-nu-metal moshpit... But hell, I don't mind if Cliff(I though he left the band?) sings as long as he screams more. And the horrible sophomore slump cliche continues on stronger than ever "Dead and Dreaming" doesn't top the intensity of thier first. A purist will say they're trendhopping with thier alterna-choruses, euro-metal twiddling and metalcore hopping... Diehards will say they're stronger than ever. I guess the more you analyze it, DKL put out the same record we've been hearing for years. But hell, this is metal, if you're on here reading a review because you're interested, let it be known you're at least 10 times less worthless than a fan of Avril Lavigne or Simple Plan or Good Charlotte. Give yourself a hand, and keep headbanging. Stay metal. Also keep in mind bands like The Haunted, Diecast, Hatebreed and Dry Kill's earlier stuff under the name Hinge might be worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is so good I can't think of anything I could write for a title that would tell how much I love it, February 5, 2006

Well, I'll give it to you straight and simple. Dry Kill Logic f**king rule. Now I don't know much about them except that there is four members, but I am already convinced DKL is one hell of a band. A couple of months ago, I listened to "Nightmare" and "Rot", two songs off DKL's first album "The Darker Side Of Nonsense", on a mate's mp3 player. Needless to say, I was instantly hungry for more. I was going to buy the album, when my eyes instead locked on to The Dead And Dreaming. More interested in something more modern, I bought this CD without even sampling it because I could basically tell from the album cover it was going to be awesome. And believe me, I wasn't disappointed. Dry Kill Logic are all about one thing: expressing their anger and frustration through a series of pulse-hammering songs. Mixing melodic vocals with sheer power and aggression, DKL provide the kind of music that would make you want to destroy your bedroom. I can't choose any standout tracks, because they are all as good as each other. I too have heard people refer to DKL as nu-metal, and this is absurd. Nu-metal describes acts like P.O.D, Linkin Park and Korn. Dry Kill Logic fit more comfortably under the heavy metal/hardcore catergory alongside Slipknot and Hatebreed.

If you like Dry Kill Logic and haven't bought this album yet, get off your ass and do so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbeleivable, January 16, 2005
By
This review is from: The Dead and Dreaming (Audio CD)
With Dry Kill Logic's debut(The Darker Side Of Nonsense)being really hard edged and anger filled.Stuff that made Slipknot look like Brady Bunch,I was into it.But for awhile I didn't hear anything from this band and was starting to wonder where the f**k they went. But man they came back with a vengeance with all and more. They sound much more mature. With Cliffs voice sounds so much more viscious and the clean singing is unbeilevable and the riffs are raging and drumming is flawless and very technical.Dry Kill Logic is the future of great metal along with Lamb Of God,Stemm,Shadow's Fall, and Unearth. But with Dry Kill Logic make sure you keep the volume all the way up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Improvement.... An album for soul searching, December 30, 2005
This review is from: The Dead and Dreaming (Audio CD)
I must say, I didn't think very highly of their first release. It did nothing for me, I bought it, but I was going through a phase where I wanted to discover new artists. These guys were alright, but DEFINITELY not impressive. I sold "The Darker Side of Nonsense" back a few months ago.

Just today I was in FYE, and as always looking for some new discs to add to my collection. While thumbing through various titles, I came across DKL's title card. I thought these guys had disappeared and disbanded. I was surprised, even more so when I saw they had a new album out.

I thought what the hell... i'll prelisten to it just to see what took them four years to come up with.... IMPRESSIVE. I was really feeling this disc. VERY MATURE, the songs aren't bulls*it. They actually have something to say, important things to say. "Neither Here Nor Missed" is the track that really did it for me. It... took my pain away. And I don't say that lightly.

I put another cd back on the shelf so I could purchase this one instead. I was that AMAZED. And to think I never thought much of these guys when they first came out, with that nu metal crap... this just goes to show some things only get better with time. And they did, and if they keep on this path... good things await them, no doubt.

"Neither Here Nor Missed" is powerful enough, I put it on my therapeutic listening list.

4.0 out of 5 stars Same Band... More Mature, November 10, 2005
This review is from: The Dead and Dreaming (Audio CD)
Dry Kill Logic is one of those bands that are not afraid to show their sensitive side. But if they should happen to catch you making fun of them, they are more than capable of beating you senseless. In DKL's sophomore effort released in 2004, Dead And Dreaming, they prove that the barrier between melody and metal is meant to be broken. Although DKL introduced us to this theory with their debut, The Darker Side Of Nonsense in 2001, this latest effort appears to be more focused as well as more intense.

This album opens with Cliff Rigano's raspy scream piercing through the throbbing guitars to create a no holds barred sort of introduction. It then turns into a slightly melodic chorus, only made evident by the different tones of Rigano's growls. "Lost" is by far the most intense song on this album, with "200 years" coming in a close second. The rest of the album pretty much follows the typical pattern of heavy verses and melodic choruses. The only exception to this pattern is "Neither Here Nor Missing." This song follows the opposite pattern, making the verses melodic and the chorus intense. Rigano's vocals are well equipped for singing, and has a scream fit for the angriest of men.

Although there are some new touches in this album such as guitar solos in "Perfect Enemy" and "Bullets", there doesn't appear to be anything groundbreaking in this album. Each song sounds like it picks up where the previous one left off. This isn't to say this album is boring though. DKL have indeed firmly established their identity as being as intense as the next guy, but still keeping their melodic edge. The members of DKL have definitely matured since their debut, tweaking their sound only slightly so that their different musical tones mingle with each other in comfortable conversation. This allows them to explore many different options that can only make them better.

With such a ferocious start to this album, it only seems fitting that the ending be exactly the opposite. In following the pattern of their debut, the closing track is soft and brooding. The acoustic guitars and gentle vocals of "No Reason" allows you to believe everything will indeed be all right... until you start the album over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album that you listen to over and over again, June 12, 2005
This review is from: The Dead and Dreaming (Audio CD)
This is a awesome album, every song is as good as the one that came before it. The only other album I have that I can say that about is Lamb of God's ashes of the wake. This album is much better than I had expected it to be. Dry kill logic is a band that will not dissapoint you with this album. I gave this album five stars even though I did not enjoy it as much as lamb of god, or all that remains. That is not to take away from how good of an album this is, Its just my personal taste is to the harder sounding metal. But this cd is great in its own right. The songs in this album are very well written and the music is practically hypnotic.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good, March 2, 2005
This review is from: The Dead and Dreaming (Audio CD)
Simply a very good CD with some very heavy songs and some very melodic moments with great singing. The songs can seem very angry yet uplifting and hopefull at the same time. My favorite songs were Paper Tiger, Neither Nor Missed, and As Thick As Thieves. Those are just the standout tracks a few others a good as well.

dry kill logic literally dropped off the face of the earth after thier 2001 debut "darker side of nonsense".so i heard about 'dead and the dreaming" from theprp.com and decided to check it out.they have reformed their sound, not sounding numetalish anymore, instead hinging onto more metalcore sound with a mellow chorus like sevendust would do.cliff can really sing and its a shame he cant do it more on the cd.most of the songs are really heavy verses followed by a mellow and catchy chorus."paper tiger" and "buckles" are good examples."lost" is a pummeling opener to the album.my personal favorites are the last 3: "as thick as thieves","200 years",and "no reason"-the acoustic ender."as thick as thieves" is an amazing track.beautiful chorus and a verse with sevendust like choppy riffs and such.cliff really shines on this one."200 years" is ridiculous.very heavy, fast and incorporating some double bass work."no reason", although not as good as "goodnight" from their first cd, is a curveball for the listener, as no one would espect DKL to so a song like that.overall, a good listen and a refreshing one from a band that deserves mor recognition than they get.for fans of god forbid, sevendust, nonpoint, and damageplan.
