4.0 out of 5 stars Best of both worlds.
Let me just start out by saying, in order to enjoy this album you really have to like BOTH indie music and Counting Crows. If this applies to you, please do not hesitate to buy this album. It is an INCREDIBLE tribute album. By far, the best I have heard. Boys Night Out does an extended version of "Walkaways." Their interpretation really encompasses the true meaning...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time or money!
As a huge Counting Crows fan, I thought it was kinda cool when I came across a tribute album to them...right up until the time that I listened to the cd. It is nearly impossible to get through. The best way I can try to explain it is to call it bad karaoke. I rated it one star because there's no "0 star" option. If you have any intentions of buying this cd, find a website...

Being a very big fan of the Crows, I ordered this cd with high hopes. I haven't really heard anyone cover the guys before so I thought it would be worth a listen.

When I put it on I was surprised at how well done it was. All the bands but their own personal spin on all the songs with the two best being Punchline's version of "'Round Here" and Between the Buried and Me's version of "ColorBlind"

All in all its very good and definatly worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dead and Dreaming, December 18, 2004
This review is from: Dead & Dreaming: Tribute to Counting Crows (Audio CD)
This CD is completely different than anything in my collection. Although these are the same artists I generally listen to, there is a whole new perspective as they cover the Crows. The bands I've seen before and already liked made some great music, especially Punchline's cover of "Round Here," and a few of the others were well worth checking out. In the end, the disc has its good parts and its great parts, but its variety makes it great for just cruising in your car or road trips.

4.0 out of 5 stars a few dissapointments but still a great cd, November 19, 2004
This review is from: Dead & Dreaming: Tribute to Counting Crows (Audio CD)
I was really excited to get this cd because The Counting Crows are one of those bands I grew up with and loved, and i like many of the bands covering them such as Bayside, Boys Night Out, and The Rocket Summer. There were a few disapointments although. First off Angels of the Silences is my favorite Counting Crows song, and i dont think Rydia did it justice whatsoever. The band doesnt sound all that bad but i had never heard of them and their twin vocals get annoying fast... Boys Night Out also dissapointed me but mainly because they did a song i hadnt liked in the first place but i do respect their total style change to make the song. I think it might of turned out better although is Rydia and Boys Night Out had switched songs. High Life sports The Rocket Summers great vocals and Number One Fan did a good job with Holiday in Spain..

Persally I think the cd in a whole is worth it just for Punchline's "Round Here" , Hoston Calls cover of "Einstien on a Beach", and Hidden in Plain Views rendition of "Mr. Jones". AAll three are fantastic and easily the highlights... Bayside did a good job with "A Long December" but i think it could of used more energy, after all most of these bands arent known for slow rock songs.

I think The International Language which supposedly sports members of Hawthorne Heights did a HORRIBLE job with Rain King. Rain King was one of the Counting Crows best overall songs and they pick this song to murder. Attempting to take "The postal service" type electronics to the song and totally ruining the flow killed the song. maybe with a different song i wouldnt of minded..but comeon its rain king.... raining in baltimore and children in bloom were both also valiant efforts.

In the end my two criticizms would have to be the butchering of Rain King and horrible band choice for Angels of Silences. Still a great idea for a cd and should recieve credit just for that. I think more indie tributes to 90's bands should be put out.. Sublime perhaps?

5.0 out of 5 stars A great tribute and a great cd!, November 16, 2004
This review is from: Dead & Dreaming: Tribute to Counting Crows (Audio CD)
This cd blew my mind. The first chance I first saw it by surfing around for tribute albums and this caught my eye. I instantly picked it up and once I listened to it, I was amazed! Most of these bands on the cd I normally listen to anyways but love them even more for the fact that they are covering Counting Crows songs. The best one of course is Long December by Bayside(One of my favorite current bands) and the cover of Round Here by Punchline. Round Here is just the same but more punk version with faster guitar rhythms and faster drumming. The rest of the album goes as follows

1.Rydia by Angels of Silences 7/10
2.High Life by The Rocket Summer 8/10
3.Holiday in Spain by Number One Fan
4.Colorblind by Between the Buried and Me 8/10
5.WalkAways by Boys Night Out 10/10
6.Round Here by Punchline
7.Einstein on a beach by Houston Calls 9/10
8.Mr. Jones by Hidden In Plain View 10/10
9.Long December by Bayside 20/10
10.Rain King by The International Language 10/10
11.Raining in Baltimore by The Junior Varsity 9/10
12.Children in Bloom by As Tall as Lions 9/10

I also want to give a big thanks for all the bands that have compiled together to make this great cd. Please check it out if you are a fan of any of the bands above or Counting Crows.
