This review is from: Dead End Drive In/Cut and Run (DVD)
I'm kind of at a loss as to why these two completely different types of films were packaged together here. "Cut and Run" is Ruggero Deodato's followup to the infamous "Cannibal Holocaust" and - without getting into all they hype about that film's merits or lack thereof -- it does have a certain energy and buildup that makes you interested in the outcome. Drug dealers in South America with "Eight is Enough" actor Willie Aames plus Richard Lynch and Michael Berryman! Much death and mayhem with a trippy musical score. Cool! On the flip side of the coin is "Dead End Drive-In" -- a movie I've wanted to see ever since I saw the lurid VHS cover in Tower Records/Video (remember them?) many years ago. Finally I got my chance. Unfortunately it's a really awful movie, made by "Mad Max" fanboys it would seem but without 1/10 of that movie's craft. The plot - some sort of dystopian future in Australia and ne'r do well teens and young adults are trapped in a sort of "drive-in prison." I guess the Aussie version of the ACLU wasn't around, eh? Anyway, the acting is bad, the stunts are ok but it's just a stupid, goofy movie that I don't have time to go into. Basically -- a bunch of stupid people run around and do stupid things. How's that?
