"A strong pop punk release here in the WESTON meets early BLINK 182 vein. This could almost fit in on Mutant Pop too. A very enjoyable feel-good release from a band new to me. Keeping the pop punk dream alive." - from MRR #198 (Nov.99)

3.0 out of 5 stars Dead Ends is a one way street
Before I begin my review, a quick question: Can anyone honestly tell the difference between tracks 1 & 2? I sure can't. They both have essentially the same beat and attitude and tune. But people have been saying that about punk rock since the beginning, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining about that. The only problem is that for the entire album, every song is almost...

4.0 out of 5 stars Another awesome Drive Thru band, August 29, 2001
This review is from: Dead Ends & Girlfriends (Audio CD)
I just got this cd today, and I have to say, I really like it. Allister's "Dead Ends and Girlfriends" is a great cd. The band's debut album is a treat for everyone into fast punk music. Instead of being too poppy, Allister keeps a fast punk sound from begining to end. The cd pulls you in and dosen't slow down. The songs are solid, and fun to listen to. While the lyrics can be better, the cd is awesome to just turn on and clear your head to. The guitar, bass, and drums are top notch fast and sound great. I like almost every song on the cd. Aside from maybe one or two dumb tracks, it dosen't drag the cd down at all. The two covers are great too, "I want it that way" is great, and actually makes the song listenable. The "fraggle rawk" brings back many memories. My other favorites are: Jimmy's Dreamgirl, Moper, It's Just Me, Miz, Friday Night and Pictures. However, the only track on the cd that really gets to me is that pointless love song. Other than that, the cd is great punk fun. I can't reccomend a better cd to a punk fan who is looking for many ways to avoid the bubblegum punk crisis. Allister's cd is a welcome change into this era, and will please almost every punk fan. The only real problem with the cd is the lyrics, most are just dumb . However, the band has plenty of talent and I can't wait until their next cd comes out.

Allister's CD starts out strong and keeps it going for the whole album. Standout songs include "jimmy's dream girl", "moper", "jacob" and of course "fraggle rock" and "i want it that way". i think the middle of the album is a little weak, with many of the songs sounding similar. you might often find yourself asking "didn't i just hear that song?" but overall, i think the strong songs make up for some of the middle "filler" songs. also, allister is from the chicago area, so i have to love them, and they're really great live too, which is all too often not the case with punk/emo-ish bands. so go buy the cd, have fun, break stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk pop at it's best, May 28, 2002
This review is from: Dead Ends & Girlfriends (Audio CD)
I picked up this disc at a local show Allister was playing at and there is not one bad track on the whole disc. No attempts at ballads or "serious" songs, just a whole lot of fun and energy. If you like New Found Glory or FenixTx you will like Allister, although Allister has a more raw, garage sound to them. A perfect of mix between pop and punk, old school punk rockers can find something to like here as well as teen age girls. Songs like "Jacob thinks I'm gay," "Friday night," "Miz," and more just stick in your head all day, not to mention making you want to get up and jump around. They include their own version of the Backstreet Boys "I want it that way" which is scary because it sounds a little too much like the boys but it's good for a laugh. It's rare that you can put a disc in and listen to it straight through without skipping tracks, but this is one of those gems. Drive-Thru Records has produced yet ANOTHER winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Band, Excellent CD, January 25, 2002

Allister is a rarity among bands; they are very talented, but still have SO MUCH FUN that it projects to the listener. I see them as sort of a medley of Green Day's songwriting styles, Blink 182's energy, the Beatles' harmony and their own cartoonish flair. A great album whether you like punk or not.
Allister is also awesome in concert. I recently saw them, and have to say that they were one of the best shows I've ever been to. Great guys too, as far as I know (I talked to Scottie briefly after the show... really a nice guy). Buy this CD! you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, energetic, funny, February 21, 2000
This review is from: Dead Ends & Girlfriends (Audio CD)
I listen to CDs for my University's campus radio station and last week I got a copy of Dead Ends and Girlfriends to review. I liked it the first time I listened to it, and I listened to it about 10 more times before I took it back with a reccomendation for high rotation. A lot of the songs, including (naturally) the cover of I Want it That Way are now being played regularly :) And I want my own copy! It's just a fabulous CD! I highly reccomend it!

I very much disagree with chiefmolino's review, saying that Allister basses their music on Blink 182. I dont see how that is possible when many of the songs fetured on the great album were writen in the earley 90's. This is one of the all around best, most enjoyable bands around. as you can see, in many of the other reviews, people have said that they have met Allister, which i think is extreamy cool of them. Even if you hate punk, buy this awesome CD to support such a humorous, talented group as Allister.

4.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong w/ drive-thru and allister, January 11, 2005
This review is from: Dead Ends & Girlfriends (Audio CD)
After having "Last stop suburbia" for a couple months and being pretty into it, I decided to pick up "dead ends and girlfriends". At first listen, I noticed that the songs were kinda short, and that two of the original members hadn't been on "last stop suburbia". At times, it seemed almost like a different band. All the members sing, and each has atleast one song where their vocals dominate. I guess that can be considered a good thing, except for the fact that if you're not familar with the band, you sometimes forget you're listening to a full-length rather than a compilation. all in all though, this is a good, melodic piece of pop-punk work, with an early blink 182 ( dude ranch) feel. I'd also recommend getting last stop suburbia, cuz its just as good...
