Hope For The Music Biz Yet!,

Well, whatdyaknow? A 22 year old that probably would glare to death anyone who called her a "diva", who can sing about stuff in the third person--stories you recall after the song is over. A young artist with a sense of musical history, influenced a lot by pre-1990-- who's actually done her homework: Caitlin Rose sounds like a cross between Kitty Wells/Patsy Cline/Hazel Dickens with a bit of Frank Zappa's GTOs and Josephine Baker. That she probably knows WHO these musical ancestors are, to begin with, is reason enough to get this disc and follow this artist. If she succeeds in the years ahead, we who are weary of the vulgarity in likes of Black Eyed Peas have hope indeed! Five stars, but I almost docked it one-half just because it is short--only 7 tunes. Maybe combine all of this CD with 10 more cuts the next go-round and that will really get everyone to sit up and take notice.

Cigarettes Won't Kill Ya,

This review is from: Dead Flowers (Audio CD)
Just for the sake of accuracy--in case someone looks to amazon for information on release dates and all--I'll point out that this EP originally appeared on the Theory 8 label in early 2008. Seven tracks. Songs include a cover of the Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers" and a version of Eddie Miller's "Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray." Good stuff, with minimalist arrangements--a couple of tracks feature tambourine and Rose's voice, nothing else. She is from Nashville.
