"The game got out of control....",
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dead Game (Paperback)
Three Hollander High seniors (Linnie, Ming, and Jackson) decide to get even with a bunch of their classmates who they consider cheaters and liars by publicly humiliating them in a secret prank called the Dead Game. At first, their hit list only contains two people--the transfer twins (Austin and Adler)--, but as the trio gets swept away in the thrill of the game, six more students are added to the list: Brenda, Karl DeBerg, John Stalley, Price, Rafe Gibbons, and Julie Clay.Linnie, Ming, and Jackson's plans seem to be running smoothly--that is, until Rafe Gibbons accidentally ends up in intensive care and Brenda falls down a flight of stairs to her death. The threesome then decide to stop playing the Dead Game before anyone else gets hurt. However, the game doesn't end for them there. Following the accidents, the remaining people on their hit list mysteriously get their payback. But if Linnie, Ming, and Jackson didn't do it, then who did? And if someone else is involved, are they next on the hit list? I thought "The Dead Game" was a pretty good, fast-paced teen thriller. The game idea for revenge was quite clever and original, although I was a little bummed about the identity of the killer. Still, worth reading if you enjoy Point Thrillers. Recommended for readers age 12 and up.

Best Point Horror Ever!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dead Game (Paperback)
This story is the best point horror ever! It's so brilliant! The characters are so cool (Linny totally rocks, shes so crazy) and the plot is so original. Brenda and those twins totally got what was coming to them (they were all just sooo annoying!) I can't understand why there aren't more reviews here. I have one message for all the people out there... Read The Dead Game (you haven't lived 'till you have!).

Synopsis: The story starts off with Linnie, Jackson and Ming, three students and close friends at Hollander High. They are disappointed that the new `transfer twins' at their school, Austin and Alder ranked #1 and #2 in class for transferring credit from taking AP classes in their previous school. Ming, who was initially ranked #1 in class, is depressed that she is pushed down to #3 and that she would not get a scholarship for college. Linnie suddenly comes up with an idea for teaching a lesson to the twins and whoever got away with cheating them before. Linnie tells her friends about a game her sister played when she was in a resort, called the `Dead Game'. In her sister's version, each person was given a name of another person within their group "to kill". The "killer" had to lure his "victim" to a room and say "Bang, you're dead" and move on to get the victim's victim, and so on. The last person standing was the winner.
However Linnie, Jackson and Ming decide to spin their own version of the game. Firstly, they create a list of the people who got away with cheating, in order to teach them a lesson. Then, they each randomly select a name from the list without revealing it to one another. Their goal is to publicly humiliate the person within two weeks. Soon, the game is set into motion. Each of them randomly pick a name from the list, and start studying the subjects. Initially, the game seems like fun, and they are all interested in finding their target's weak points to humiliate them. However, what started as an innocent prank suddenly starts going terribly wrong, when Ming's target is injured fatally as a result of a prank, and Jackson's target is found dead in their school. Feeling guilty and worried that they took the game too far, they decide to put an end to the `Dead Game' for good. But someone else has plans for continuing the game from their list, and they soon realize that rest of the people from their list is also being humiliated. Desperate to stop the game, they try to find out who could be doing this, but later realize that by doing so they have now become the target. Can they stop the player from playing this sick game before the player stops them for good? Review: Even though I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, I must say I was disappointed once I finished it. Don't get me wrong. I thought the whole story was great, and everything did make sense in the end. I was disappointed because this book did not shock me in anyway. I already had my suspicions on who the killer was from the beginning (it's pretty obvious if you think about it; the "killer" in the book is not as remorseful as others, and still feels that it is all just a game, and the murders are just an accident), and it turned out to be the person I suspected. I feel that the author could have made a little more effort to add more twists and suspects to the book. I guess that's what ticked me when I finished reading the book. On the other hand, it was kind of fun reading how far the `killer' would go before being caught. Another reason for my disappointment was due to the fact that the author never clearly explained what caused the wrongdoer to start behaving this way. The author explains WHY the `killer' did it, but not what triggered the person to start doing it.

Are you ready for a "kill"?,

This review is from: Dead Game, the (Point Horror) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Senior schoolgirls Linnie and Ming, and schoolboy Jackson are feeling down. This is supposed to be one of the best years in their life, and things just aren't panning out. The main trouble is the fake people: the cheats, the liars, the put-down artists that somehow manage to push their way to the front, stealing the happiness that belongs to others. Then Linnie has an idea: the Dead Game. To 'kill' someone you have to embarrass them in public, or even better expose them for the fakes they really are. It sounds too simple. Maybe it won't work at all? But somehow the Game works too well and things get out of control.
This is a novel of intrigue and action, with quite a few surprises. The author manages to combine scenes of ordinary school life with the extra-ordinary. The theme of justice is developed in some detail, with on easy answers or trite solutions given. The three main characters are given just about equal attention, with chapters written from their individual point of view. The book can be enjoyed by both girls and guys.
