5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun and well plotted
This series has Texan heiress Abby Rose as its "detective." Abby is not living off her inheritance, though -- she has started a detective agency specializing in adoption searches (she was herself adopted -- see first book in the series) and wants to help other people in her situation. She lives modestly (drives a Camry) and her boyfriend is a Houston Police Department...

3.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable
I really like this series. Its not rocket science, but the characters are amusing and the plotline usually keeps me guessing. I find it a pleasant, easy, enjoyable read. Some mystery, some comedy and some romance...but not so much that there's "breasts heaving" or "loins aching with desire". If you want that, check elsewhere.

This series has Texan heiress Abby Rose as its "detective." Abby is not living off her inheritance, though -- she has started a detective agency specializing in adoption searches (she was herself adopted -- see first book in the series) and wants to help other people in her situation. She lives modestly (drives a Camry) and her boyfriend is a Houston Police Department homicide detective. She has a twin sister with whom she gets along very well and an aunt who is her polar opposite.

The plot in this book involves a 19 year old basketball star who is looking for his birth family. Abby gets a call from the woman who had been the person who had found the baby abandoned on her doorstep 19 years ago. But before she can speak to this rather odd woman again, the woman is murdered (not giving anything away, this is the first ten pages). Abby is convinced that this is related to the adoption search but her boyfriend isn't so sure. Still, he agrees to let her pursue the adoption search as long as she doesn't interfere in the police investigation.

The key seems to be discovering who the parents were and how did the baby end up on this woman's doorstep -- she wasn't an obvious choice.

I read this book in one day and particularly enjoyed the good plotting and likable "detective." I look forward to reading more in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adoption and Murder, March 15, 2006
Abby Rose is a PI specializing in adoption. She's also a Texas heiress.

Will Knight hires her to find his birth family. He's now a superstar college athlete, but once he was a baby abandoned on a doorstep.

There aren't many clues to his background, just an expensive baby blanket and Verna Mae, the woman who found him.

Abby meets with Verna Mae. She feels she knows more than she is telling. But before they can meet again, Verna Mae is murdered.

Abby is determined to find the truth. She follows the clues from the Huntsville state prison to the richest parts of Houston. Someone feels she's asking too many questions. Can she discover the truth without being silenced?

I really like Abby Rose. She is such a fun and likeable character. She is well written. This is a quick and enjoyable cozy to read! The Texas setting really lends itself to the story, and I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll swoon over Sweeney!, May 7, 2008
By

(REAL NAME)
Ever since Abby Rose opened her own Private Investigation service specializing in adoption cases, the Texas heiress has thrived off of seeing people reunited with long lost birth parents, and being present as families come together after so many years of being apart. While some cases have been tougher than others, causing her to trek through dangerous territory, and devote countless hours (days, months) to locating one simple person; none have been as complicated as her most current mission. One that will take her back twenty years, and expose her to more sinister conditions than she ever could have imagined.

Abby Rose has no idea who Will Knight is when he contacts her to assist him in finding his birth parents. The only thing she can spot upon meeting the nineteen-year-old is that he has enough height for three people. Not surprising, since he's a superstar college basketball player with a mile-long fan base. Will knows nothing about his birth parents. Having been abandoned on a woman named Verna Mae's porch as a newborn, Will knows only his adoptive parents, and loves them very much. That said, he's still determined to locate his true family, and Abby is eager to take the case. Armed with nothing more than an expensive baby blanket, along with the bizarre words of Verna Mae, who has tracked Will's every move since the day she discovered him on her doorstep, Abby knows that this case will be tougher than ever. But when Verna Mae is found murdered, right before she meets with Abby to divulge a few secrets, Abby knows that something sinister is at work. Verna Mae may have been off her rocker, but she loved Will and would have done anything to help him in his plight. Now, Abby has taken on the case of Verna Mae's murder, in addition to Will's adoption case. After all, Abby knows that the two are linked, and that she'll be unable to solve one mystery, without solving the other. But as Abby begins her quest for answers, she comes to realize that things are even more sordid than she ever could have imagined. Making her way from the posh playhouses of Houston, to the dreary Huntsville state prison, Abby finds herself racking up more questions than answers, and wonders if she'll ever be able to solve the case at hand. But she won't have to think about that for too long, as the killer is angry about Abby's nosiness, and will do anything to shut her up before she leaks out the truth.

It only takes two seconds to fall in love with Abby Rose, and with each installment that Leann Sweeney pens, I find myself falling deeper and deeper under Abby's spell. While some characters possess very one-sided personalities, such as shy, or outgoing, Abby is a blend of so many character traits - witty, nosy, fast-talking, fun, and absolutely irresistible. Her determination to solve any case she comes in contact with is humorous, while inspiring; and the banter-filled relationship she shares with the Big Red-loving Jeff is tantalizing, yet never racy. While Abby's sister Kate isn't the most prevalent character, those times that she does appear are enjoyable and information filled; while the various secondary characters who spring up within each installment get more wacky with time. Sweeney is a master at bringing the heat and heart of Texas to life, and making the reader want to stick by Abby through thick and thin. EAD GIVEAWAY is just another enjoyable piece to the Abby Rose puzzle that will keep you coming back for more. You'll swoon over Sweeney!
