5.0 out of 5 stars A furiously good read
"Dead In 5 Heartbeats" is a fascinating look into the world of outlaw bikers. Written by Ralph "Sonny" Barger, former leader of the Oakland chapter of the Hell's Angels, and the writing team of Keith and Kent Zimmerman, this novel tells the story of "Patch" Kinkade, former president of the Infidelz biker club. 1.0 out of 5 stars Pointless
I was excited to see a new book from everyone's favorite biker, so I had to have it. The fun stopped there. This book is pointless, except to fill the pockets of Barger.

It's a poorly camoflauged retelling of his autobiography for the first half of the book. The last half is just dumb. It involves every half-baked idea presented in the biker movies from the...

5.0 out of 5 stars A furiously good read, February 4, 2004
This review is from: Dead in 5 Heartbeats: A Novel (Hardcover)
"Dead In 5 Heartbeats" is a fascinating look into the world of outlaw bikers. Written by Ralph "Sonny" Barger, former leader of the Oakland chapter of the Hell's Angels, and the writing team of Keith and Kent Zimmerman, this novel tells the story of "Patch" Kinkade, former president of the Infidelz biker club. Having grown tired of the burdens of leadership, Patch moves to Arizona in an effort to start a new life for himself, but he is called back into action when a war erupts between the Infidelz and their rivals, the 2Wheelers. Although he is no longer their leader Patch feels that he must help them, either by attempting to broker peace between the Infidelz and the 2Wheelers, or by leading his comrades into battle.

I have always found novels written by authors who have such an intimate knowledge of their subject matter to be fun to read, and Sonny's first effort as a fiction author is no exception. In "Dead In 5 Heartbeats" the acton fairly explodes from the page, painting a vivid portrait of life in a biker club that only an insider like Sonny himself would know about. This book is rich in detail from the very first sentence, and by the end I felt as if I were caught up in the action. This is definitely worth a read, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a lot of action when they read a book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very real to life! Gives a good inside look of a biker gang., December 10, 2003

This review is from: Dead in 5 Heartbeats: A Novel (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed this book. It gave a real good insite into the life of a biker. What typical bikers have to go through on a day to day basis and how they live their lives. I thought it was very entertaining and not too gruesome as I read in previous reviews. It spoke about stabbing and fighting but that is something you deal with when you live a life like that. I couldn't put this book down. Great job Sonny!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead in 5 Heartbeats, August 26, 2007
Excellent book that made me want to read more. I also purchased the second book by this author, it was outstanding as well. Mr. Barger does a great job and the main character is the kind of person we all want to be. I hope he continues to write more of these books. I would highly recommend this title as well as the second book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tell it like it is......., February 1, 2007
Most people know Sonny Barger as the former leader of the infamous Oakland Chapter of the Hells Angels. I think this book brings the insight and experience that Sonny has of the world of the 1%'rs. A world that very few really understand and fewer yet have the guts to live, and die, in.

The action and story was good with a bare minimum of BS. The main
character was believable. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward
to more of Sonny's novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you buy a book...., September 13, 2005
This review is from: Dead in 5 Heartbeats: A Novel (Hardcover)
If you buy a book written by an infamous outlaw motorcycle gang member, you can expect it to be gruesome and violent!!! People make no sense to me. They buy a book written by a violent person, obviously it is going to be about violence and their life in the gang. You can read that on the back of the book, typically. If that doesn't strike your fancy, DON'T BUY IT!!!! It's that simple. I have yet to read this book, but I am going to and I expect it to be graphic!!!!!

I was excited to see a new book from everyone's favorite biker, so I had to have it. The fun stopped there. This book is pointless, except to fill the pockets of Barger.

It's a poorly camoflauged retelling of his autobiography for the first half of the book. The last half is just dumb. It involves every half-baked idea presented in the biker movies from the 1960s and 1970s and ties them into this dumb book. I almost expected to have a bit a biker werewolves by the end.

Advice: save the cost of this book and apply it towards the purchase of a motorcycle of your own. But, avoid this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars More than decent read from the original 1%er!, September 2, 2011
This review is from: Dead in 5 Heartbeats: A Novel (Hardcover)
God love Sonny Barger! Is there anything that he won't attempt? This fictional suspense thriller is actually a pretty good read. I whipped through it fairly quickly, mainly because it held my interest, which is more than I can say about a lot of books out there today. The story is interesting & well-written. It's not the greatest novel out there, but it's clever & face-paced &, well, Sonny Barger wrote it! 'Nuff said!

I read this book cover to cover in 4 days of sitting in doctor's waiting rooms. It is a fast read, but highly entertaining. I was really glad that I had the next book in the series sitting on the coffe table waiting for me to finish this one. Great book.
