Garnet Lacey, Book Four,
This review is from: Dead If I Do (Garnet Lacey) (Mass Market Paperback)
Garnet Lacey and her vampire boyfriend, Sebastian, are due to wed in two weeks. Garnet's parents have arrived and have been told that the groom is undead, not that they believe the news at first. But seeing Sebastian's zombie-vampire-witch-former lover, Teréza, show up in a public restaurant to curse Garnet and try to kill Sebastian certainly puts them on the road to believing. The parents will also have to learn about the other paranormal beings in Garnet's life, such as the Goddess Lilith, the Queen of Demons, sharing her body and Sebastian's half-vampire son.
Teréza's curse begins immediately. The baker cannot do her wedding cake, the awesome band has been replaced with a polka band, the bridesmaids' dresses get mixed up and are totally wrong ... the list goes on and each thing is worse than the last. It is beginning to look as though no one will live to see Garnet's wedding day. **** This paranormal romance overflows with danger, excitement, and mayhem; however, whenever things become too stressful a healthy dose of irony or comedy shows up to ease the way. Tate Hallaway has an amazing talent for story telling. **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Enchanting Review: Dead If I Do,

DEAD IF I DO
TATE HALLAWAY Paranormal Romance Berkley Trade Sensuality Rating: Sexy Rating: 5 Enchantments Garnet Lacey is all set to walk down the aisle with fiance Sebastian--that is until his dead ex shows up at an already awkward dinner with her parents and proceeds to curse both Garnet and the wedding. Now Garnet's struggling with the recently risen Tereza, who wants nothing more than to do away with Garnet and take Sebastien back for herself. There's aslo Matayas, her future step-son who still can't stand her, not to mention her parents who can't believe she's about to marry a vampire and to top it all off, the curse is apparently working as wedding preparations are going wrong at an alarming rate. Will Garnet ever be able to marry Sebastian? Or is their relationship doomed? DEAD IF I DO has quickly become my favorite book in the entire series. Garnet truly comes into her own in this book, and I found myself laughing out loud more than I have in a long time. I loved the addition of her hippie boomer parents to the mix who provide some of the best lines in the book, particularly in the latter half when they find Tereza and Garnet fighting. Garnet's abilities are strengthening as is Lilith, the goddess who lives inside her as she tries to come to the forefront more and more. And worst of all for Garnet, her relationship with Sebastian is also on the rocks, given his reluctance to deal with Tereza once and for all. Trying to pick a favorite scene to highlight is tough, given how many truly had me laughing out loud but I loved the part where Garnet's parents walk in on the fight between Garnet and Tereza and are forced to help her and Sebastien lock Tereza away. All I can say is Ms. Hallaway truly has a way with great dialog in DEAD IF I DO! Fans of the series will no doubt love this recent addition and I have to say I was thrilled to see a recent blog post by Ms. Hallaway talking about more future books in this great series! Ms. Hallaway is also the author of previous best sellers Tall, Dark and Dead, Dead Sexy and Romancing The Dead. She lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with three black cats. I am totally in love with this type of vampire story. It's light, fun and easy to read. I was totally engrossed in Garnet's quirky life and hot romance with Sebastian. I will definitely miss them both. I hope that Tate continues the story now that they are married. I would love more on Parrish and William too. The books were great, and I'm so happy I found them!

Saying "I do" has never been so difficult....
Garnet Lacey has just about had it! Her carefully planned wedding is rapidly falling to pieces. Sebastian is the man of her dreams but the return of his dead ex-girlfriend (and the mother of Mátyás) is ruining everything. Téreza, like Garnet, is a witch and she has cursed Garnet. Will Garnet get the wedding of her dreams or is this a nightmare in the making? I've been a fan of Tate Hallaway's series since the beginning as Garnet's quirky personality is just a lot of fun. However, some of the elements I enjoyed so much in earlier books seem to be missing as DEAD IF I DO almost veers off towards more of a paranormal chick lit book. In fact, the magical elements almost seem an afterthought in some places and just part of the paranormal shtick in others. Some of the scenes are funny but those looking for the darker elements that were part of the first three books will find they are missing in DEAD IF I DO. Oddly enough, my favorite character in DEAD IF I DO is not the main characters but rather the beta male, William. I want to read William's story now as he most certainly deserves his own happily-ever-after. William may be indecisive about who he is, but he personifies friendship. In fact, William's heavy presence in the story is why this story rates a 3.5 instead of a lower rating. Overall, DEAD IF I DO is a disappointing entry in an otherwise fabulous series. I loved this latest book in the Garnet Lacey series. As usual, things are getting out of hand for poor Garnet when it comes to the supernatural, but now everything that can go wrong with her wedding is going wrong, including her relationship.
I love a book that can actually make me feel for the characters. Tate Hallaway has the gift of making it easy to put yourself in Garnet's shoes. You feel mad when something bad happens, happy when things are resolved, and the ending is just wonderful. I really like how the author handled things with Parrish at the end of the book. All in all, a fun read!

Ive loved these books since the very first one and I was excited that Garnet was finally going to get married and make a decision between the two men in her life. Instead I was disappointed because I felt the author focused too much on the wedding. I would have much rather heard more about how Matyas brought Tereza back and maybe even what was happening between Parrish and Tereza. I am sure it will be in the next book but for me it just left me hanging but not really caring anymore. If these books are going to be 14.00 I expect to get my moneys worth, not a book full of filler or fluff.

Book 4 and still going strong!,
This review is from: Dead If I Do (Garnet Lacey) (Mass Market Paperback)
I'm just so in love with all of the characters in these books by this point that I think it would be hard for the author to screw it up for me now. In this book we find Sebastian and Garnet happily engaged and trying to explain their relationship to Garnet's parents. (Sebastian's vampirism and all!) While this particular conversation is happening, Sebastian's ex Tereza shows up and tries to kill Sebastian and curses Garnet. From then on nothing goes right. All of Garnet's wedding plans go down the tubes. Now on top of trying to save her wedding, Garnet needs to find a way to deal with Tereza. This book doesn't disappoint. There isn't quite as much action as previous books but the humor and sexiness that's been present all along remains. As I've said in previous reviews, I think reading this series in order is best. It works as a stand alone novel but you really get to know all of the characters and their history and appriciate them. Here's hoping there's a book 5!!!

"Dead If I Do" is book four in Tate Hallaway's series about a witch who's finally found her perfect man, uh vampire. In this latest tale, Garnet and Sebastian are ready to tie the knot but it appears someone may have put a curse on their wedding since everything from cakes to dresses seems to be going wrong! And when Sebastian's ex-lover, mother of his son, apparently now a zombie shows up...well Garnet's pretty sure her life is NOT going well.
This series is chicklit meets the paranormal with occasional steamy sex thrown in for good measure. I've kept up with the series since I picked up the first book, "Tall, Dark & Dead". I like the laughter and sheer zaniness it provides and Hallaway's writing and pacing only sweeten the deal for me. You won't cry or sniffle or chew your nails reading this series--instead you'll likely laugh til you're red in the face. It's written in first person, but I haven't had any problems keeping characters or thoughts straight and I think the first person voice has even helped Sebastian and his son keep their 'mystique'. I DO recommend not reading the series in public though...unless you don't mind people staring at you while you snort and laugh. |
