Book Description

What will you do? How far will you go? What will you become?

Welcome to Banoi, a tropical island where you can leave the stresses of the world behind...

Welcome to the Royal Palms Resort - which offers its guests from around the world the ultimate in luxury and relaxation...

Welcome to the holiday paradise where your dreams should come true...but where a nightmare is about to begin....

Because a mysterious epidemic has suddenly, and without warning, broken out across the island. The local islanders, hotel guests and workers alike are struck down - only to rise again, craving the flesh and the blood of the still living. For four of the holidaymakers and a handful of others scattered around Banoi who are seemingly unaffected by the plague, they must face the awful, terrifying reality of a zombie apocalypse. Now there is only one thing left to do: survive.

Welcome to Dead Island... a paradise to die for.

I am one of the few readers who picked this book up *before* playing the 360 video game (which I have yet to get to). On it's own, the book does a very good job delivering the reader into the former paradise resort island, lost seemingly forever to hordes of the walking dead. I found that the characters were well fleshed out, the action sequences were very well worded, and avoided repetitive adjectives which can be a real story-breaker for repeated "interactions" as it were with the zombie masses. Both the preface mini-story introduction and the storyline's finale were really great, quite dimensionalized, and very, very easy to visualize in the mind's eye as one goes along.

Reading this with my now aging Kindle 2, at night, in the dark with only my Kandle (a small LED booklight) to illuminate the reading experience was the best way to really read this book. I can't imagine how it would have been reading it during, say, the morning hours when the sun is up.

My only suggestion for the author would be that this book "felt" like a $3 to $5 ebook. I think it's current price point is just a little high in it's e-book form (I would pay $10 for this in paperback). I would consider discounting this just a smidge - I suspect that a lot of potential buyers shied away from this particular book at it's current price of $7 and change. That notwithstanding, thanks for the great read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Adaptation September 16, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Dead Island is a fantastically detailed version of the game. Charactersare fleshed out and it has really enhanced my experience playing the game, which skips over a lot of this. There are many changes from the events in the game, but that only serves to keep the reader guessing. I recommend it, as it is one of the better game adaptations out there.

A much better story then the one in the video game. I really wish there was a sequel. If you played the game this is worth checking out!
