5.0 out of 5 stars An IN-Your-Face, Non-Stop Punk Barrage!!
Finally, The Long Out Of Print Dead Kennedys "Target Video" has been released! This short, but powerful DVD, focuses on this important political hardcore punk outfit during their late 70's, early 80's heyday...Snippets of Jello Biafra's Mayoral campaign....And the never seen Target Studio Sessions...Any fan of early punk, or even today's, should definately get...

2.0 out of 5 stars There is always room for Jello
Dead Kennedys: The Early Years Live: 4 out of 10: Ah the classics... Well this very short video (30 minutes) shows, what one assumes was amateur video, of The Dead Kennedy's tour in support of their first album. It also has a human-interest news report on lead singer Jello Biafra's run for mayor of San Francisco.

The video quality is unsurprisingly awful. The...

Sing-A-Long Special feature, and Band Bios accompany this disc. Check out my personal favorite visual,"Bleed For Me", which the entire band looks so totally "tight"...See For Yourself why Dead Kennedys will always be the Inventors of the Political-Punk Movement!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Right On!!!, December 7, 2003
This review is from: Dead Kennedys - The Early Years Live (DVD)
This DVD was worth every penny, the audio was a LITTLE disappointing but you don't even notice when you see Jello Biafra running around and acting out the song and seeing fans tackle him to the ground and he never misses a word. And Klaus Flouride's amazing bass always all over the place and East Bay Ray (who only weighs about 8 grams) with his unforgetable guitar playing. An old ad for Jello running for Mayor of San Fransisco and a music video for Holiday in Cambodia and Bleed for me, this DVD is one to be owned by every DK fan. Seiing Classics like Kill the Poor and Drug Me live... I don't know what I'd do without this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like Dead Kennedys? Don't miss this one., June 11, 2002
This review is from: Dead Kennedys - The Early Years Live (DVD)
If you like Dead Kennedys, seeing how they looked like in stage back in the late 70's is mandatory. Jello Biafra is, as usual..., the band's energy is fantastic. It's one of the best music DVDs ever, I give it 4 stars only because it is a bit short (30 mins). It's as raw and real as punk rock can get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight to the band onstage..., February 25, 2005
This review is from: Dead Kennedys - The Early Years Live (DVD)
As someone who was born in 1984, I was too young to enjoy the Dead Kennedys onstage (granted, I wasn't even thought of when these live performance pieces were videotaped), so I find this a truly enjoyable view. It gave me a feel of what an actual Dead Kennedys concert was like, and I suggest to all DK fans of today to pick this up. You'll be glad you did.

Mixed quality but very cool old footage of early DKs shows. You get to see them playing in clubs, in the streets, and at a studio that looks like someone's extra bedroom. The sound quality is listenable but this is more interesting for historical reasons.

The sound quality however is even worse which makes this useless as a concert tape. Since the camera stays focused on Jello and the boys one does not even get the interesting thrill of seeing the punk rock audience, which is often the best part of the show. Outside of a few clips of Jello vacuuming a sidewalk (don't ask) there is virtually nothing intelligible in the entire program. Which I guess is kind of punk in its own way after all.

1.0 out of 5 stars DeadKennedys The Early Years Live, October 24, 2010
This review is from: Dead Kennedys - The Early Years Live (DVD)
I have always been a Reactionary not a Revolutionary, And I can't stand music with social messages, that being said perhaps this would appeal to a Fan more, I am More of A Misfits/Samhain/Danzig,Ramones and even Black Flag/Minor Threat Fan,I Like American Punk, I Can't Stand/don't care for Racists,Anarchists,Leftists or Communists. So Jello and DK are not very talented (what punkband is?) unless it's "The Message"(Like The Clash), The only thing cool is the name, other than that these fringe left nobodies really are nothing but political partisans thinking it is cool to rebel,Newsflash your all old geezers now and it's time to Conform!I don't care for the environment or to recycle, I think once Punk became about Politics it sucked. So I know that I will be getting Nasty Comments and the Usual Insults thrown to someone of my persuasion but I like it.
