Great Entertainment! November 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Dead Locked is a fun and unique story, combining a long ago romance and lost pirate treasure with modern day romance, murder, and mystery. Amy Saunders does a fantastic job of allowing the characters' personalities to slowly unfold. Rather than being bombarded with information at the start, we are allowed to get to know each character as a friend. She sprinkles the plot's details like bread crumbs on a trail, giving us enough to keep us close while not quite allowing us to catch up.

The book's chapters are broken into various times before and after a specific murder. For me, this was the only drawback. The back and forth shifts left me a little disoriented at times, making it harder for me to stay in the moment with the story. This could easily be more a reflection of my own reading preferences than anything to do with the writing style.

** I read Amy Saunder's short story Bast & Immie first, which introduces the two main characters and allows us to get to know them before the events of this novel. It's not necessary to read the story but it is such a fun read that I highly recommend you do! **

Dead Locked is story about Imogen Bell who catches the treasure hunting fever. It starts out with her intending to report and publicize the findings of an underwater archaeology team who is diving on an old pirate shipwreck known as The Freelove. But when an unfortunate event happens to the leader of the team Imogen soon finds herself with a list of five clues to a lost treasure and embroiled in double mystery - murder and treasure! Can she find out what happened? Can she find the treasure if there really is one? I'll let you read the book to find those answers.

The characters are well drawn out, the dialogue is believable and the author deftly weaves together a story focused on a close group of friends and acquaintances. I personally would have liked there to be more action centered on the shipwreck but the mystery is told in true classic sense. You the reader get to figure it out along the way. The story keeps you guessing and just when you think you have it figured out... well, if you're a mystery lover you know what I mean. I would recommend mystery lovers to read Dead Locked, especially if you like the amateur sleuths, shipwrecks and/or the east coastal area of New England/Rhode Island. Great details and did I mention pirates.

Fun read! November 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The main characters in Dead Locked are engaging and likable. I really enjoyed how the past interplayed with the present and how they were woven together. I love that it was set near the ocean and how that created the backdrop for the story.

But for me, more than plot, I'm all about characters and the chemistry they create. And there's definitely chemistry between Imogen and Sebastian. They have tension and energy that drive the story forward. Always looked forward to seeing them interact! It's a fun story that's easy to read. I agree with the other reader too, that you should read the "Bast and Immie" short story too! Gives a little background on the two of them- though not neccessary for understanding Dead Locked.

More About the Author

Hello! And thanks for checking out my books! I've written two mystery novels so far. My first, Dead Locked, is about Imogen Bell who works for a team of underwater archaeologists and ends up embroiled in a deadly treasure hunt. My second mystery, The Jester's Apprentice, is about Philippa, a woman caught between her new husband Edric and his smoky past - and hers.

I've always loved mysteries, even in elementary school. My mother raised me on TV show reruns like Murder, She Wrote, Matlock, and Magnum, P.I, and later I picked up her Agatha Christie addiction.

However, sometimes I just want a hot (but intelligent) guy and a strong woman bantering for pages. Or a gripping action sequence. Or some fun sci-fi/fantasy elements. And sometimes I want it all in the same book. So with mystery as the backbone of my stories, I blend in romance, action, adventure, and soon sci-fi to keep it fresh and exciting.

Why should you take a chance on my books? Well, I write what I'm passionate about, and I'm passionate about people and mysteries. I make my characters passionate too: about each other, about what they're hunting, fixing, or piecing together. Above all, I want my readers to have fun, and leave happy!
