Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Dead Man's Hand is a first-person shooter set in the Wild West. You are El Tejon, a master gunslinger on a vengeful mission. The story unfolds like a classic Western adventure movie. You will pursue members of "The Nine," a gang of ruthless outlaws who betrayed you and left you for dead. For the first time ever, you can experience the best elements of the Western genre brought straight from the silver screen to the PC. Experience authentic gun slinging action using nine different weapons. By shooting with accuracy and skill, players can build up their "Legend" score and unlock special trick shots for each weapon. Between showdowns, players can test their luck with the cards to win bonuses including health, ammo and additional "Legend" points. Take out an opponent in a bar brawl using whiskey bottles. Take part in exciting horseback action sequences, train chases and epic showdowns. It is all part of the Old West feel of Dead Man’s Hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally,a game worth more than the price!!!!, April 3, 2004
This review is from: Dead Man's Hand (CD-ROM)
Thank you , ATARI. Thank you for saving me 20 or 30 dollars on a game i would be o.k. with paying that much more for. Other than the linear paths you must take to get from point A to point B, this game is an absolute blast. Western fan or not. There are an incredible collection of backdrops and bad-guys to fill MANY hours of gameplay. The creative way that they have you earn ammo at the start of each level by playing a game of poker. You win, you get ammo. You lose, you lose it all. At the start of the game you are shown an overly-simplistic sequence where everything is still photos with dialogue over it. The first impression was that they put little time into the cut-scenes. Well, that was wrong. After that, the cut-scenes come alive with full animation and voiceovers. They are done in a grainy-style to give it a film-noir look. The weapons are very nice, each one having a distinct sound and feel. The missions are short, but there are a bunch of them. Including bonus missions, I've played through 19 so far and i see no end in sight. ATARI, I don't know why you did this, but, thank you. A game of this quality and price gives me hope that the future of PC gaming is bright. This is in the top 10 of the best shooters I've ever played. And I've been playing them since 1993. Great work, ATARI.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good use of the Unreal engine, but BAD save system.., April 21, 2004

Darn! Another good game that suffers from the "I'll never let you save where you want" programming syndrome. The gameplay is great; you are a wronged desperado betrayed by your ex-compadres, and you travel throughout the west, hunting them down.

I like the weapon selections, the game is easy to learn, the bonus points for "trick shots" is cool as well. The only drawback is the stupid save system - save at chapters only! What a rip-off. Fortunately, I enjoy repeating parts of the game but that won't last forever.

Buy Dead Man's Hand due to the low price vs. the high enjoyment value.

I loved Outlaws. I can't say that enough, or emphanize that enough, I loved Outlaws. I've played Outlaws over, and over, and over, until I couldn't get it to work on Windows Vista and greater anymore. I tried a lot of games trying to find something similar, but did not find any westerns that caught my attention like Dead Man's Hand. My friends, this is A FUN WESTERN!!! It's not Outlaws, but it is fun to play and worth the money. Recently, I found my Outlaws disks damaged (damn cat lol), but I'm good, I still got a working copy of this game. Not having the ability to save anywhere is a hassle, but hey, in leiu of a better western game, (yes I completed GUN and thought it was ok, but not memorable), this game will do quite nicely. I've put these disks up where the cat can't scratch them cause I don't want to lose this game. Outlaws has a great story and fun gameplay and Dead Man's Hand expands on that by delivering even more fun story and gameplay. I find that as long as I got Dead Man's Hand, I just don't miss Outlaws that much.
