Excellent soundtrack score from the last DIRTY HARRY movie, THE DEAD POOL. If you're a Callahan completist, you'll want this one. Has all the cues from the Lalo Schifrin score and it's a good one. Callahan's theme at the beginning followed by lots of suspense filled music as Dirty Harry investigates a string of murders that movie folks are betting on. Really enjoyed this one, although my fave Dirty Harry scores are still MAGNUM FORCE and SUDDEN IMPACT, but it's great to have 'em all finally.

This one is the last of the 'Dirty Harry' movies, made 17 years after Clint Eastwood first made a name for the tough-as-nails San Francisco P.D. homicide Inspector. I have to say he couldn't have done it without the help of Lalo Schifrin, who scored all the Dirty Harry movies (except 'The Enforcer', which he was unavilable for due to a timing quirk). As with the rest of Schifrin's 'Dirty Harry' scores, the music has a particular feel to it; it handles Harry's motifs nicely in places such as the track 'Harpoon' - which, coincidentally, also has a great cue in which Harry impales & kills the Dead Pool murderer, Harlan Rook, with a movie-prop harpoon. Included here are all the most memorable cues from the score, including 'High & Dry' when the movie critic is killed in her apartment, and the score from Chinatown robbery when Harry ambushes the thieves in the restaurant & Insp. Quan knocks down a suspect with martial-arts kicks & then arrests him. The motif for the explosive-carrying remote-controlled car appears in a couple of cues; it is exceptionally well scored for the tiny menace it represents. A score worthy of Dirty Harry himself. Fans will not want to miss this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dead Pool, September 22, 2009
This review is from: The Dead Pool [Original Score] (Audio CD)
First, all the Dirty Harry soundtracks have the same kind of cover design with the title written in big writing at the top of the case with The Original Score and Lalo Schifrin's name written at the bottom (apart from The Enforcer because Jerry Fielding did the music to that one). I found out there's an extended version to The Dead Pool where it has twenty-two tracks instead of twelve. In this version advertised at Amazon that I also bought, the Main Theme is Track Two but the extended version has the Main Theme as Track One. It's worth checking out the extended version. I can't remember where I found the extended version. I copied and pasted the details from a site before buying this version advertised at Amazon. Now I need to find the extended version. I hope the extended version has a better version of the Main Theme because it sounds different to how we hear it in the film on this version advertised at Amazon.
