An unbelievable collection of songs from the greatest soul artists of our generation. The two Burt Bacharach songs, "The Look of Love" and "Walk on By," performed by Issac Hayes, are great cover songs that were included, but the one song excluded from this soundtrack that was in the movie is the song, "Twenty-five miles" by Edwin Starr. That song was played when Anthony and Kirby drive away in their get-away car after Kirby roughs up a guy and loses his prosthetic leg. That's my favorite song in the movie that was somehow left out. Its alright though, there are plenty of treats here to soothe your soul. The Sly and Family Stone, The O'Jays, James Brown, and Barry White what else could you ask for. What truely makes this soundtrack beautiful however, are all the slower songs: "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" by Aretha Franklin, "Tired of Being Alone" by Al Green and "Miss You" by Melvin and The Blue Notes. I highly recommend this soundtrack to music lovers everywhere and I give this soundtrack my highest rating, 10 stars. I also recommend Volume II, its not as great as Volume I but it comes pretty close.

An great soundtrack that transcends retro nostalgia,

This disc evokes a sense of place, time, mood and drama as any good soundtrack should...but most don't. While containing only one piece scored specifically for the movie (Danny Elfman's eerie, ominous title theme), the chosen tracks perfectly serve the film by going beyond the obvious retro standards to those true timeless gems that sound great and project the perfect the atmosphere for this passionate, tragic story.

Forget the [weak] Elfman theme tagged on at the end or the serviceable remake of "Where is the Love" by Jesse & Trina. The soundtrack to "Dead Presidents" makes for a wonderful time trip to the early to middle '70's, a time of political, as well as musical, transition. Curtis? Ike? James? Aretha? Barry? One can't go wrong in the company of these giants.

First, let me say that I have seen Dead Presidents many times. Hearing the soundtrack brings back memories of each corresponding scene. The artists and the songs comprising this disc are some of the greatest artists of the late 60's and early 70's. Walk on By has been remade so many times that it is great to have the original version. It's sad so many people only know Isaac Hayes as the voice of the Chef on South Park. This song, along with Never Gonna Give You Up by Barry White and If You Want Me to Stay by Sly and the Family Stone are some of the greatest songs of the 70's period.
This is an excellent addition to the music collections of those who love 60's and 70's R&B.

Fly A** Walk Thru The 70's,
This review is from: Dead Presidents: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I've seen the movie Dead Presidents many times and enjoyed it but the music throughout the movie blew my mind! So I had to have this soundtrack. I was born in the 80's but the music from the 70's basically set the trend for the music we hear today. Today's artists copy beats from 70's music and this CD explains why. Sit back, relax and fantasize hanging out with Foxy Brown or Superfly. Just listen to Track No. 3 and hear why the world fell in love with James Brown and will forever miss him. This IS real music. I just wish the CD had more tracks.

This is one of those rare soundtracks, an indespensible classic! Great music from the masters of funk and soul: Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, James Brown and Aretha Franklin among others. It has got a kind atmosphere that can't be described. This has got to be one of the best soundtracks ever. A vintage record. The "Superfly" of the 90's!
