5.0 out of 5 stars Buy This CD! March 15, 2011
By Bob
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I don't have enough words of praise for this band or this album. Also very hard to describe the sound, because they really have their own groove going - 2 drummers, banjo, bass, and singer. This is the best new "rock" music I've heard in a long time. I would also recommend checking out their live you-tube videos to get a sense of what you're in for.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...CATCHY AS HELL! October 25, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Not sure how I came across this album, saw it posted by a friend of a friend on F*book... peeped it and purchased the vinyl that night on Amazon. I dig this bit a ton, dark folky type stuff with some electric leads bled in and some awesome rhthym, vocal break downs and sinister wit.

The first of the album starts in a very bleak place with tracks like the floydesque trippy sad BROKE THE VEIN and into ROTTEN TO THE CORE, then it goes into a lot of abstract areas, finally finishing into the postive but bawdy "light in the sky tonight" and the positively happy to be sad numbers BLACK ELEVATOR and FAMILY TREE...

All in all a classic. My opinion, check it! Also the album cover creeped the heck out of my kid! All those kids with coins for eyes... weird!

4.0 out of 5 stars country/blues tribal folk April 5, 2011
Format:Audio CD
3rd album from Portland, Oregon band who play a sort of tribal folk with a country
back porch twang and a bit of raw blues, led by the disturbingly zealous voice of Ryan Sollee.
Shades of Murder By Death, Firewater, the Decemberists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of a listen and well worthy of owning. August 9, 2014
Format:Audio CD
This is a really good album and seems to be a bit different then the rest. In no way is that bad. Like all great bands, these guys don't seem to be interested in repeating themselves. That being said they do have a very unique sound and are able to keep listeners aware that they do have something that defiantly makes them them.
