5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, July 4, 2002
By
This review is from: I Was Dead for Seven Weeks in the City of Angels (Audio CD)
This Album by Spanish's No. 1 Rock Import Dover is probably one of the better melodic rock/punk albums ever! The Female vocals are incredible. I saw them live and the leader's voice isn't like anything you've ever heard. I've talked to people who saw them supporting WEEZER on their Europe Tour, and after seeing DOVER, they thought WEEZER stank. They stole Weezer's Tour!! No wonder they were invited to join the entire Warped Tour 2002, touring through the US. It won't take long for them to take over the world and prove that it's way wrong to think that great rock can only come out of the US. Americans...watch out for Europe's Music Invasion!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD!, October 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: I Was Dead for Seven Weeks in the City of Angels (Audio CD)
I love this band, they are great songwriters/musicians and they have a very unique sound to their music. Dover is: Cristina Llanos (vocals, guitar), Amparo Llanos (guitars), Jesus Antunez, (drums), and Alzaro Diez (bass).
This is Dover's fourth album, released in November 2001. Their first album is called "Sister", 2nd "Devil Came to Me", 3rd "Late at Night",. Despite that the Dover members are from Madrid, Spain, all their songs are in English and they don't sound Spanish at all. It's kind of hard to classify this band's music, but I'd say it's a mixture of hard rock, grunge, and again, their unique touch.
Below I'll rate the first 5 songs from 1-5 stars.
1) My Secret People- 4 stars- I would have given this song 5 stars, only it gets kind of tiring after the first few listens. The other songs on this album are much better, keep reading!

2) Better Day- 4 stars- This song says, more or less, "I can never do anything right"

3) Weak Hour of the Rooster- 5 stars- It starts out relatively quiet, then cranks up. This song took a couple of listens 'till I liked it, now I give 5 stars!

4) Lady Barbuda- 5 stars- The first HARD rock song on this CD--but definetely not the last. Very unique lyrics; "Shave your legs/I don't want/to be one/one of them"

5) King George- 5 stars- This is the best song on here! Another song with original lyrics "You only got 4 hours/to learn your manners/never felt so close to you before/long shot in the name of God/need a McCartney song" Wonderful.

I dont' know how many times I've listened to this album, and I have definetely not gotten tired of it. Thank you, Dover, for a great CD.

I first heard King George on Rock Band 3, and thought "damn that's a catchy song". The more I played it, the more I loved it. Then I decided to find out what the rest of their songs sounded like, and to my surprise, I liked every song of theirs I could find on youtube. When I found myself using the Youtube app on my phone and an aux input on my car stereo to listen to "My Secret People" while I was driving to work, I knew I had to buy the album. I was surprised again to see the $25 price on the album, not just for the $$$ but because the CD was an import into the US from Spain (that's right they're from Madrid, but you would never know listening to them). But you know what? IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH THE PRICE. This is a great album, I could listen to every song on this over and over again. You have songs that go from rock and slightly punk like "My Secret People", to the alternative "King George", all the way to the almost death metal "Death Rocker", and each one is a gem. And this band has such a unique sound too. This... is what music discovery is all about.

And on a side note, the shipping was really fast from this seller. I got it in three days!

5.0 out of 5 stars this band ROCKS!, October 8, 2005

This review is from: I Was Dead for Seven Weeks in the City of Angels (Audio CD)
I have loved this band for about two years. Once i had heard this album (in spain, where i am from but i live here in england)), i had to buy all the others. They are just simply amazing! i love the whole heavy feel they have but then Cristina's vocals make each song so powerful and epic. The heavy metal-like guitar riffs and then the grungey style really go well together. the best song is 'Better Day'. Actually they are all great. I think everyone should hear this band, and i cant wait until they play another gig here in london. I've tried to convert some of my friends into Dover fans but they just wont. Oh well, i still like to think there is hope in the world and that others will see how special this band really are. i think they should sing more in Spanish though because the song on their other album,'Sister', thats in spanish is really good. TRUST ME. BUY THIS ALBUM. DOVER COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

5.0 out of 5 stars KIller!, August 10, 2011
This review is from: I Was Dead for Seven Weeks in the City of Angels (Audio CD)
Hands down, this band's strongest record. If you like a big wall of guitar and super catchy heavy pop tunes, this is heaven. Buy it. Dover's stuff is a little tuff to come by in the USA - I have
managed to unearth all of it, and this one is my fave.

I heard "Love Is A Bitch" on the soundtrack of Amores Perros, which opened a new world of music to me. Dover's singing and crashing guitars made me want to hear more, so I ordered this CD. No disappointment- the sisters who front the band understand how to rock and every cut is well done.
