Humorous, original, and sexy as all get out.
Ms. Tyler has written a book unlike any thing I have ever read before. She has taken the Voodoo zombie curse and turned it into something rather different. Take Drake. He's a strong alpha male, but he has a bit of a problem, he might just turn into a zombie at any given time. He angered a Voodoo priestess and she cursed him with this half life. He becomes a shut in because he never know when he'll "go all Zombie". This premise intrigued me. I had to know how he and Simone would ever meet if he wouldn't leave his apartment. Simone is a erotic romance author who has basically been sucked into to a romance novel. Not literally but that's how it seems. Drake's turned her world upside down and not just in the bedroom. I know what you're thinking -- sex with a zombie? But really, at points you totally forget about Drake's "condition" as you're swept up in the story. Drake, however, is a worrier so it's brought back to the forefront again and again, as Ms Tyler keeps you wondering if he's going to suddenly "go all zombie" on Simone. This story had a lot of build up in the beginning. But it's needed for the reader to understand what's going on and how Drake ended up the way he is. Ms. Tyler seems to have a perfect knack for knowing when to drop a piece of information in your lap to move everything right along. She also has an interesting sense of humor, which keeps her characters witty and the repartee flying between the characters. The secondary characters are wonderful as well. With excellent timing they help Drake and Simone figure out what's going on and what they have to do to "cure" Drake. Ms. Tyler has weaved a complex and original story full of action that will keep you flipping pages. This book is full of twists, turns and an ending that will leave you blown away. DEAD SEXY by Paige Tyler is not something I would usually pick up. I say that because it is about zombies. Although I have read a few zombie books and was relatively happy with them I am not sure I would call myself a huge fan. So when I thought I would give it a whirl I as pleasantly surprised. I knew that I had in the past enjoyed Paige Tyler's other books.
What I really liked about Dead Sexy is that Drake knows no bounds, sex, money and the high life he has become a shallow man-whore really who works hard and plays hard. But when an office bet goes bad, reality is about it hit, and hit hard. Talk about a transformation, Drake has suffered for years as a zombie, funny thing though is that he isn't one all the time and he is now pretty good at predicting when one of his zombie episodes is coming to claim his life. But he has no chosen the life of a recluse, no longer the sexy man he once was he isn't able to socialize with fear that at any moment he will change into the undead. It was actually kind of sad to see his state of mind. It is a slight case of depression and with only one friend in the world he has carried on his life on-line. That is where he meets Simone. It's not what you think, he is sought out to proof her latest romance novel and help her through the rough patches and writers block she is experiencing. A confident women and best selling author she is horrified that she needs to seek out his help. As their chats start to lengthen and get a little more personal Simone and Drake decide to meet. Simone was simply a refreshing character, simple and sweat, someone you cant help but love and Drake, although he came onto the scene as one of those guys that are just slime, I couldn't help but grow to love him!

The hero Drake comes across as a real bas**** in the beginning, and he seems to get what he deserves when he's cursed by a Voodoo priestess for mistreating the woman's granddaughter, sleeping with the girl because of an office bet. Drake was a total self-absorbed man-ho.
After living eight years as a zombie recluse in his NYC apartment, Drake meets Simone and can't resist taking a chance with her. He's very alone, and she makes him feel alive and wish for a normal life with her. Simone is a romance author whose agent has recommended Drake to help fix her current book. Drake works from home on a consultancy basis as a sort of book doctor. He and Simone communicate online, flirting and getting to know each other. Drake eventually decides to meet Simone in person, even though he knows it's a risk for him. His zombie curse comes and goes; one moment his skin is normal and next it is dead and black. Usually, he can go days before a change and mostly his entire body isn't affected at one time. Drake does his best to keep this from Simone, who thinks she has finally fallen for a regular guy, one with no major hang-ups or problems. The curse has actually caused Drake to be more human in a way. He is no longer the selfish, uncaring, and thoughtless man he was. And, as he and Simone fall in love, the rest of the book centers around finding the priestess and reversing the curse, which turned out for me not to be very exciting or interesting. I felt the story was slow and plodded along many times, especially the first half, and I did have to make myself continue on with reading it, when I really wanted to move onto something else. Also, I felt very little sympathy for Drake, and I can't say that I really liked either main character that much. For me, this was an average read, not bad but not that good. I wouldn't tell a friend to rush out to read it. |
