5.0 out of 5 stars Pass Me A Tissue, My Ears Are Bleeding, April 1, 2006
This review is from: Dead Shall Inherit (Audio CD)
This must be heard to be believed. These guys took their inspiration from classic horror novels and movies, such as H.P. Lovecraft and early Clive Barker. It's just a pummeling work of unmatched ferocity and bitter, bleak craftsmanship. It's harsh and raw and just makes ya wanna rip off your own face and stomp on it. It's a guttural and brutal assault on your ears and brain, and brutal beyond description (but I'll try). I know the word brutal is over-used like mad in these reviews, but in this cast it really applies. The vox are as deep and low as you'll ever hear, but at the same time being intelligible and quite haunting. The bass is a constant barrage of madness that chugs and thumps and always keeps things interesting. The drum lines are full of hooks and rolls and stops and starts. Make sure your speakers are anchored well, or they'll topple for sure. The guitars are heavy and fierce and always keep you listening for the next tempo change. This is mid to moderately paced stuff, and the heaviness lies in their ability to keep mixing things up. The genius is in the simplicity of the structure, and how they blend styles and textures. It's straight-forward, no-nonsense death metal. A derailed freight train coming right at ya. No song really stands out above the rest, as they are all putrid slabs of decaying horrors. They stick with you, and you'll crave it again and again. Just one of the top five albums I own, up there with Autopsy's Severed Survival, Deceased's Luck Of The Corpse, Immolation's Dawn Of Possession, and Ripping Corpse's Dreaming With The Dead. It'll assault you with all the sensitivity of passing razor blades. Look in any underground store for Banished-the band Baphomet dissolved into. It'll probably be with the used vinyl. You won't be sorry. No price is too much.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lost Gem for Metalheads, January 22, 2008
This review is from: Dead Shall Inherit (Audio CD)
Baphomet's 1992 release "The Dead Shall Inherit" is one of the most brutal and heavy albums that I have ever had the pleasure to listen to, and considering there are no reviews for this album, I would call it a lost gem for fans of old school death metal. Baphomet was one of the many NYC bands to come out during Death Metal's Heyday in the early 1990's, and also one of the ones that vanished from the scene just as quickly as the scene died. (they would only release one more album) What a shame, since this is some really good stuff, in fact its one of my favorite Death Metal albums off all time. Its unbelievably heavy, with guttaral vocal, and more crunch you will find on any Obituary or Bolt Thrower record. I cant stress enough that you have to add this to your collection, and since it was just re-released and newly remastered, the sound quality is excellent, considering at the time it was recorded. Please, if you are reading this, purchase this, you wont be sorry. Sad to see this band has to fade away so quickly, since they were one of the heaviest and sickest of all time.
