5.0 out of 5 stars Impaled set a new standard for gore metal.
If I could only use one word to sum up this album, it would be: SICK. Absolutely grotesque cover art, nauseating lyrics, and a very morbid sense of blackened humour. I was loving every minute, from start to finish! Don't get me wrong, this isn't some shock metal band benching on their gorey elements to get fans...no no, Impaled are so much more than that. 1.0 out of 5 stars Almost the worst record ever.
A toilet? A toilet on the cover? Really, what in the hell were we thinking? And really, a couple of beers during recording would suffice, but did we have to polish off a forty-eight pack of swill each day during the creation of this monumental mistake? It's not like we could play anyway, but I'm sure severe inebriation did nothing to enhance our lackluster talents...

I was loving every minute, from start to finish! Don't get me wrong, this isn't some shock metal band benching on their gorey elements to get fans...no no, Impaled are so much more than that. Their songs are written intelligently, with very good structures. No song gets old, the band manages to change up the riffs at the right moment, every time. Bottom line: if you like Carcass, Exhumed, or any thrash/death metal for that matter, this album is a MUST.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sick, brutal, fast, ... with one word IMPALED, July 16, 2004
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
Well, we're talking about IMPALED, whitch means to get planted on pales, so this music is not for chikens!!!
Insane gore/grind band, whitch simply kicks you in your head!!!
The covers are very gory, brutal, etc. This band's music sounds like Carcass or Exhumed, alo very insane band, but Impaled 're 100% the sickest band in metal industry.Lyrics are spooky and whole production is great! it's very fun to listen their music, but this is a band whitch you hate or love it, so many people hate it. I also like changing vocals in the band, as I said before, their music is cool to listening. I also recomend you Chois cuts and Mondo medicale, whitch is banned in 84 countries around the world, now say they 're not brutal!!! Metal fans, you have to get that album, because if you don't have that one, you 're not a metal fan, anithing from them, you won't be disappointment, belive me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sick gore/grind, February 22, 2003
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
Impaled is a relativly newer gore/grind band. They play in the "Reek of Putrefaction"/"Symphonies of Sickness" Carcass style. Impaled is also very similar to Exhumed (a former Exhumed member is actually in the band), but not as brutal. Impaled is brutal and fast, but actually manages to maintain some melody. Impaled's vocals are pretty much high pitched gore screams with an occasional guttural gore grunt. Impaled is probably the best "Carcass-clone" band in the gore scene now. I recommend this cd and their other releases "Choice Cuts" and "Medical Waste."

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
I don't normally listen to much "gore metal", and that's why I was a bit unsure on if I should buy this album. But I caught the band live at metalfest and their performance impressed me enough to buy it. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard it. Sure, this is some sick and brutal death metal, but I also think it has some qualities that make it stand out from the pack a little. One of them is that these guys seem to have a sense of melody. I was expecting constant blast beats and inhumanly low growls. While that is the case in some parts of the music, others are focused more on heavy and catchy mosh-pit inducing riffs. And while the riffs are still very heavy, they are also technical, playing many notes and adding some harmonics instead of just bashing the same couple of chords really fast. I also like the fact that the guitar solos are melodic. Instead of lighting fast soloing, they slow things down and put a melodic twist on their solos. I also like the the variation in the vocals. There is a deep growler and a more high pitched screamer, except his voice isn't annoyingly high and he doesn't scream his lungs out. His vocals remind me of carcass's vocal style. The only thing I don't really like are the lyrics. I realize that this is gore metal and is supposed to have gory lyrics (and in this case lyrics that have a lot to do with ...), but I just don't prefer this lyrical style. I'm not bashing it, it's just not what I prefer. Even with that little drawback, I still think this is a very good cd. If you like any form of brutal music, I suggest you pick this up. They spice up the standard brutal death metal formula enough to make people who like creative edges in their music find it appealing, but also have enough raw energy and brutality to make fans of straight up gore metal enjoy it. Recommended to anyone interested in extreme metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Carcass before "Heartwork"!, April 7, 2002
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
One of my personal favorites in the "gore-grind" genre. Unlike some other bands that fit into this category, Impaled is brutal but still remains to be technical, unlike Mortician and Incantation. The album cover is one of the best, next to the likes of Exhumed's "Gore Metal" and Cannibal Corpse's "Eaten Back To Life". Impaled reminds me of early Carcass (except for the excessive lyrics about feces). Overall, this CD contains some great songs like "Back To The Grave", "Flesh And Blood", and "Spirits Of The Dead". It also includes the greatest sample used ever on "Back To The Grave".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of Fecal Fun!!!, January 16, 2005
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
With Impaled's The Dead Shall Dead Remain, they have painted a truly gruesome, disgusting, and horrific picture of death/gore/grind music...and it's GREAT!!! The only complaint I have is that I wish the band had a little more money for production, but other than that, what we have here is one of the best gore/grind cd's ever recorded!!! Let me tell you, the cover says it all!

The disk kicks off with a rather truthful introduction about death being the most rejected and denied human condition ever...and then the album explodes with diarrhea and intestines as the opener Feces Of Death takes you down into muddy, and very stanky, toilet ride. Flesh and Blood is a roller coaster ride of fecal fun thru the muddy depths that Impaled are made of. Spirits Of The Dead and All That Rots are probably my favorite fecal hymns, but all of the tracks are full of good, decent fecal fun. These guys' lyrics are just fecal-tastic! I love these guys for their music ability and their very, very disturbing and disgusting humor, I guess because I have always had a very unusual sense of humor, so I could relate to these guys right away!!! Raul Varela's (Human Hide Bastinado) drum work is very fast and he seems to play his blast beats with great accuracy. I personally love his 20-minute long tom rolls. Ross Sewage's (Wrecktal Enigmations) bass lines and his deep growls make this disk very interesting and fun to listen to. Sean McGrath's (Clangorus Cacophony and Crepitous Colloquy) guitar work along with past-member Leon Del Muerte's (Vomitonit and Guitarded Fustigation) guitar work make some interesting riffs, and they both do really awesome guitarded solos, and they even name each one as an added bonus, which is quite ingenious in my opinion!!!

If you have a disgusting sense of humor like I do, or if you are a fecal-philiac, then this is a must have for your fecal collection! Highly skilled and highly entertaining! Hails Impaled!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Insane, April 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
This album is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most hardcore, brutal, and downright disgusting pieces of filth I have ever heard....I LOVE IT. Every track possesses blindingly fast guitar riffs, mind-blowing bass, blistering drums, and the vocals are almost inhumanly baleful. If you like bands like Exhumed or Regurgitate, you will love this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gore Masterpiece, November 30, 2002

JChuckM (Sharon, Ma USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
This cd is very much like "symphonies of sickness" era Carcass and "Gore Metal" era Exhumed. Brutal gore metal with melody, high pitched screams, and solos. If you are a gore metal, grindcore, goregrind freak than this is perfect for you. One of the best albums to come out in the last couple of years in the Gore genre. Every song is filled with brutal, punishing sickness. Along with this album I also recommend anything by: Anal Blast, Fleshgrinder, Vomito, General Surgery, and Pathologist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gore and Crap galore, July 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dead Shall Dead Remain (Audio CD)
This is an awesome CD. Impaled surpasses Exhumed by far, but I have one complaint. Why do they like crap so much? They talk about it in almost every song. Anyway, this CD is definitely a must for any death/black metal band. Its heavy, fast, brutal, and has great lyrics and vocals.
