I love British mysteries. I've read all of P.D. James', Colin Dexter's, Deborah Crombie's, and many, many more authors of the genre. This was my first by Peter James. Let me just say that it is now 2:30 in the afternoon and I just finished Dead Simple after picking it up for a "15 minute break" at 9 this morning. This was after reading until I fell asleep last night.

The plot is engaging and the characters believable. The story moves through many turns, some predictable but with an unexpected little twist at the end of each.

I am surprised at some of the low ratings. I certainly will recommend this book to my thriller-loving friends.

I am English ,live in England, but usually read James Patterson etc..I picked this book up in the shop and thought I'd give it a go, I loved the whole thing, good story, good characters, twists and turns, and all set in Brighton, which I know well. I have to say,I enjoyed this book far more than all the latest Patterson's. Ive just finished Dead simple and I am just about to start the 2nd in the series of Detective Roy Grace books, "Looking good dead", I can't wait to read it..

I enjoyed this book and surprised myself by reading it all in only 3 days. The plot moved along nicely and there were only a few places where you knew what was going to happen next. The characters are developed enough to make them believable but not enough to bore you to tears. And there is a moral - don't be a prankster when your friends are drunks and hold a grudge :) Oh - and be sure to do a background check on your fiancee! I definitely recommend this book and I can't wait to read the next one by Peter James.

The book was good 3/4 of the way through but if you're looking for a good endind forget it. I'm glad I got it by way of gift card. Again it was good but if your looking for a ending to match no way, buy it used.

This is really disappointing...... to search out a book highly recommended in an Amazon discussion group and find it it not available in the U.S. What??? I don't get it. Why wouldn't the publisher/author/Amazon want to SELL SELL SELL any book to any buyer who wants it? This is not rocket science. We want/need Peter James (and any/all books to be available to a U.S. audience--this in keeping with Amazon's goal to make ALL books available on Kindle (all Kindles around the world!) Come on......
