Book Description

July 11, 2008
Even with Eastern European heavy-hitters Vlad Tepes, and Erzsebet Bathory as the deathless vigilantes of the title, the main character that emerges through this narrative is that of New Orleans herself a Gothic beauty who moves to the rhythms of trad jazz, wearing her bruises and bereavements, her steamy history, and her wild voodoo nights with pride, with passion.  A fascinating debut that delivers much and promises a great deal more. -- Alan Moore, writer of Watchmen

Book 1 of 3.

Book 1 contains an exclusive interview with Dani Filth, singer of Cradle of Filth.

From writer Kurt Amacker and artist Louis Manna comes a dark tale of immortal vengeance.

On the darkest streets of New Orleans, forces from the past have crossed into our world. In their own time, when Prince Vlad Dracula and Countess Erzsebet Bathory took the lives of others, they did so remorselessly and for their own reasons some for war and others for pleasure. The world has never seen inside the mind of those out of time out of a time when life held little value for those that would take it at will until now.

Born again with no understanding as to why, nothing will stop the two immortals from extracting their vengeance on a world with few answers.

But, the two sides of a conflict spanning history have found them. And, two New Orleans Police detectives will glimpse a world filled with darker things than are dreamt of in their philosophy.

The dead live again. The conspiracy unfolds. And, New Orleans may just be caught in the middle. Dead Souls raises many questions, but there are only the beginnings of answers.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Two of the most infamous and bloody characters from the Middle Ages are given fresh new Satanic life in this illustrated modern gothic horror story. One of the best and profoundly imaginative comics I've read for centuries... --Dani Filth (Singer of Cradle of Filth)

5.0 out of 5 stars Intellectual, Thrilling, and Twisted, October 17, 2010
This review is from: Dead Souls #1 (Single Issue Magazine)
I found the story line to be well done - the influence of the city, and the story upon the city make for interesting interplay. The writing is very thought-provoking - something I found to be a wonderful surprise for a goth/gothic graphic novel. Needless to say, I've become a fan, and am looking forward to more twisted stories from Kurt.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Streets of New Orleans Come Alive, April 20, 2009
This review is from: Dead Souls #1 (Single Issue Magazine)
Despite being on the goth side Amacker's presentation of New Orleans is beautifully done. No matter what form of media, stories set in New Orleans rarely communicate the feel of the city- a rare treat, especially for a New Orleans native.

Solidly plotted (and leading to some interesting turns in issue #2)and drawn, this is one to watch.
