3.0 out of 5 stars Bad News/Good News (Collector's Edition) January 25, 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360| Edition:Collector's|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The bad news: The Dead Space 2 Collector's Edition is an astonishingly brazen rip-off. The "replica plasma cutter" is embarrassingly awful. It is so bad that I actually feel sorry for the game developers who now have to live with the fact that this ridiculous piece of cheap plastic has been associated with their hard work on the actual game. The "rare lithograph" is a postcard. A postcard! Rating: 0/5 (Okay, 1/5 since it does come with some DLC. I haven't listened to the soundtrack yet so maybe that won't suck.)

The good news: The game is fun and seems to be a worthy sequel (to the original Dead Space -- let's just pretend we never saw Dead Space: Ignition which is of about the same quality as the replica plasma cutter). I really liked the first Dead Space and I'm happy to be playing the sequel, even if I did pay too much for it. So buy the game, but skip the Collector's Edition. Rating: 5/5

Average Rating: 3/5 - Disappointing. This is not how you want to treat your fans who are (1) eager enough to pre-order the game and (2) rabid enough to shell out extra for the CE. Of course, I really blame myself, for being stupid enough to order the Collector's Edition. You would think that I would have learned by now that these things are 90% miss and 10% hit, but evidently I have the IQ of a replica plasma cutter.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with the collector's edition... February 9, 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360|Edition:Collector's
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
First off, let me be clear on one thing; Dead Space 2, the game itself, is great. The graphics have been improved, the gameplay feels tighter while still maintaining the creepy charm of the first game, and the attention to detail is second to none.

Now that that is out of the way, let me be even more clear; DO NOT buy the Collector's Edition. There is no reason to pay any more than the bare minimum for this game. "Why?", you may ask. Well, let me explain exactly why:

The "Replica Plasma Cutter" is an embarrassment. Seriously. If Isaac actually carried around a weapon/tool that looked like this dinky piece of rip-roaring crap, the Necromorphs would be much more likely to point, and make fun of Isaac than to actually try to NOM NOM his face. I can see it now:

Isaac: "Freeze, mutant scumbag of the spacepocalypse!"

Necromorph: "RaaOOORhhha..ARGHOoouu...uhh... what is that thing? It's so small and dainty. Hey, Slasher, you gotta see this..."

Slasher: "My ROFLblades go schwing schw... oh... ohhh... that is just sad... I am speechless, and NOT just because my bottom jaw is missing."

Lurker: "Hahah. I have seen baby lurkers shooting bigger stuff than that. It's like a fisher-price my first cutter... but way sissier..."

Isaac: "Shut up you guys! I hate you. I AM NEVER COMING BACK HERE! NEVER!!!!" *runs away crying*

Yes, it is THAT cheesy. It is small (probably 1/4 scale), cheaply made plastic with some really lame lighting "effects". And by "effect" I mean "$2 gas station flashlight reject bulbs.

The "concept art" is even less impressive. To call this dime-store postcard a "rare lithograph" is akin to calling a post-it note the Mona Lisa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Amazing Dead Space January 26, 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360| Edition:Collector's|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is amazing. First off let's talk about the length of the game. I install all my games to my hard drive for quicker load times and ease of play. This game is spread over two full discs. The length of the game is 12.7 gigs. This will keep anybody busy for a good amount of time. Secondly, the graphics are a noticeable improvement over the first game. The armor that Isaac wears are a sleak, clean looking inprovement. The monsters are gruesome and vicious. They have some returning necromorphs with improved looks along with a bunch of new necromorphs to give you chills.

The gameplay in Dead Space 2 is just as creepy as Dead Space Platinum Hits Edition was. The tone and atmosphere is dark and menacing the whole time. You feel as if there is something around every corner waiting to kill you. The necromorphs do jump out at you and cause you to jump adding to the tension. On more than one occasion a startled explitive could be heard coming from my room when I was jumped by a pack of necromorphs. When the necromorphs come at you they attack at a furious pace. The chapter progression is a much smoother transion than in the original game. It is so smooth that I didn't realize I had made it through the first couple chapters till I was saving my progress, after which I did see an on screen message that signalled a new chapter, ever so slightly. I have not by any means completed the game, but took a break to write this review.

As far as the extras go with the collector's edition, I don't get what people are expecting to get for $20 extra. I got a nifty plastic replica of the plasma cutter that lights up when I squeeze the trigger, a soundtrack, an unlockable skin and weapon, and a lithograph. Let's break this down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Money! January 25, 2011
Platform for Display:Xbox 360| Edition:Collector's|Verified Purchase
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Do not waste your money on the collectors edition. It's the cheapest made piece of crap I've ever seen. It's a disgrace. Do, however, buy Dead Space 2 just the game. It's tons of fun. The gun looks like a happy meal toy. The 'art book' is a piece of cardboard with a couple pictures (you can see the full 'art book' in the preview) [Edit: I did make a mistake, it's only supposed to be a lithograph, not an art book..] All that you really get is a special suit of armor and the soundtrack, but personally I don't think it's worth the investment. Save your money for a better collectors edition.
