Some guides just get you through and call it good but this one really seems to give you all the information that you could ask for.

Dead Space 2 Guide book feels heavy with all glossy pages in it.

I purchased this guide because Dead Space 2 is a survival horror game with many hard to find items and I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything.

With that being said I am partway through chapter 8 (of 15) and have just found the fifth item that was not listed in the guide. The guide has basic maps of every level that have little icons denoting important items you want to find, and a text walkthrough that has callouts for things you should be looking for. The most important items are power nodes which you use to upgrade your weapons, rig, and stasis. You absolutely need to find every one you can unless you are playing the game on normal or easy. I have found three power nodes that were not listed in either the map or the walkthrough, one that was listed on the map but not mentioned in the walkthrough, (very hard to find because it was in the very first zero-grav area with other stuff floating around it) and just now found a ruby semiconductor (worth 10,000 credits) which again was not mentioned in the map or walkthrough which prompted me to write this review to warn others.

My other gripe with the guide is that while it lists the available suits/weapons for purchase, it does not say what they cost, making it difficult to know whether to spend your hard earned credits on a power node or save them for a suit upgrade/weapon. I had been saving my credits for the Vintage Suit since it would give me a 10% discount at the store, but once I found it cost 40,000 credits I decided to put the credits towards power nodes instead.

I bought this book last week. I must say this book is really helpful, clear explanations for each level and chapter. This book has 288 pages plus a letter of Church of Unitology written in Aliens language. The book does not feel cheap at all like the Fallout 3: Collector's Edition Guide book which felt like recycled paper pages. Dead Space 2 Guide book feels heavy with all glossy pages in it. I recommend anyone to get this book.

Now, while this limited edition guide from Prima is manufactured at a high quality and contains some very nice bonus material for fans of the series, it fails overall as a guide. Each chapter in the game is covered with a lackluster level map and textual highlights (like every other Prima guide out there), but for the most part the information is fairly worthless and densely presented. Enemy quantity and spawn locations (which are occasionally random but for the most part deterministic) aren't shown on the provided map, and because the map is marked so sparsely it's difficult to correlate between a spatial location in the game and some of the textual information contained in each section of the guide. Hell, even after playing through the game 3 times it was still difficult to figure out what the author was talking about for any given section. The absolute worst part of this guide, however, is that the 2 most difficult trophies in the game (Zealot and Hardcore mode) aren't even addressed in any detail nor are strategies provided to simplify these two tasks (not really that hard in the first place... but they are still the most difficult tasks and SHOULD be addressed). On top of that, one of commonly missed trophies that requires a particular strategy (Elevator Action) is almost completely ignored, save for a description of where to get it.

Regardless of the previous complaints, it's still a fairly comprehensive guide and if you're interested in grabbing every item along the way this one might work out for you. As said before, there's still some nice bonus content and artwork to be had here and also included are a few useful flow-charts for the branching paths in Dead Space: Extraction, which is included with the Limited Edition of Dead Space 2.

For the die-hard collector only.

UPDATE: Dead Space Extraction guide contains a couple counts of misinformation.

If you played Dead Space, then you know what you're in store for! DS2 has been greatly anticipated and has not let anyone down since it hit the market.

I rock the strategy guides because I don't want to miss out on any of the side or hidden items. I'm not a HUGE Achievement hound, but i don't want to miss anything that'll give me an edge in-game or otherwise. Plus, the artwork, detailed maps, and extra little tid-bits of info enhance the whole game experience GREATLY!

This is a TRUE collectible! With no Ultra Limited Edition as with Dead Space, this rounds out the Dead Space 2 collection on top of all the bonus items you could score through EA.com.

Like a good novel, I can only take but so much or the Dead Space universe, and this guide is just the companion piece to make the journey that much better.

Enjoy!

As a fan of the Dead Space franchise,i found this guide very nicely detailed and helpful. It's hardbound which is rare these days and insightful when you run into an area that's tough to beat. The maps are also a great addition.

The book in itself is nice to look at. Also, a very detailed creature section that gives hints on how to take them apart and keep on going. The walkthrough is detailed and you are led by the hand all the way through the game. I found it pretty nice that the multiplayer is also explained in depth in this guide as well. I bought the book to get more familiar with the game and enjoy everything that it has to offer and this guide definitely delivers this. Some guides just get you through and call it good but this one really seems to give you all the information that you could ask for. It is really worth the money and goes above and beyond the call of duty.
