The casual style and entertaining, non-stop pace of Dead Stock makes for a fantastic bit of fun and a book that's hard t put down. Hopefully this is the first of many Bert Shambles mysteries!

Shambles is perfect for a little tickle served with murder. He is a lovable stumbler who trips over bodies and clues as the pages turn.

Great first book by Tim Hall. Off beat characters. Hard to put this book down. Looking forward to more Bert Shambles adventures.

Here's what I think: when you start this book, be prepared to ignore whatever else is going on in your life and sink into the world of Bert Shambles. Recent circumstances have left him in a bad place, but he's moving on--and you'll love being there as he does. There was a vulnerable honesty to the character that, coupled with author Tim Hall's humor, made this the perfect cozy mystery for a cross country flight. I found myself pausing only to make sure we still had a few hours left before we landed so I could finish reading!

Bert is a likable character who's life is a mess. He lives in a boarding room with no kitchen. He is on parole for three years. He is not happy to be back on Long Island for the next three years. He gets involved in one mess after another.

The mystery is pretty good and leaves you guessing about what all is going on. About who is chasing him and why.

Their is a lot of humor about what is going on in Bert's life. He gets banged up a lot falling out of windows, being chased
and trying to help the women he meets along the way.

The setting is Long Island, New York modern day.

The pace is pretty good. Every time something happens and evens out something else goes wrong in his life.

I wanted things to workout for Bert and his friends. I would read another book by Tim Hall in the future based on Dead Stock.

I was given this ebook to read for review purpose and to be part of Dead Stock's book tour.

A perfect book to cost up to a fire with on a dreary winter day. Bert was a character I could resonate with. Looking forward to the next instalment!

Bert Shambles is a troubled but likeable regular guy who works at a thrift shop and one day, because he could really use the cash, decides to go after a reward by finding a rich man’s putter—and by proving the rich man was murdered. Filled with dark humor, DEAD STOCK proceeds from there, as Shambles’ rambling adventures lead to lots of pain (mostly felt by Shambles) and a lovely mobster’s daughter. He’s no Miss Marple and has to rely on pure grit to survive while also trying to solve the mysteries. There’s something about the suburbs that make them a great place for secrets and mysteries. Tim Hall’s fantastic mystery debut taps into that and also brings a great new character to life. Recommended!
