This review is from: Dead to You (Audio CD)
History lesson, these guys helped pave the way for so many of today's hardcore, metalcore, and metal bands who are doing this style now. Devote a hour and a half to listening to some of the best melodic death metal the US has ever produced. I was lucky enough to get both of the year of our lord's albums when they first came out 10 or so years ago. At the time I was more into hardcore and punk, metal for me was just beginning to become interesting.

Well the bands first EP "the frozen Divide" caught my attention back then so I purchased it and never let it go. Back then I was just getting into death and black metal. Even back then I knew this was something special. The melodies grab you and never let go. The solos and riffs are brutal and heavy. The vocals are amazing and fit perfectly. These guys simply knew how to write good music. The frozen divide is almost a melodic black metal album. Whereas the self titled album is more melodic death. On the self titled there are more interludes and moody moments. There are some really epic moments here. This is amazing stuff. The new songs are a showcase for where TYOOL was going and I am sad to say it was somewhere special. Too bad they ended this project too soon. We would have been in for a treat.

Any fan of modern metal should look back once and awhile at some of the first bands playing this style. See where today's bands stole their ideas from. There is no "core" here, this is pure metal, and one of the best American melodic death bands I have yet heard. It's even better than some newer euro bands. These guys were doing this a long time ago so no band wagons here. At 10 years old this still holds up as fresh and unique.

I was surprised to see willowtip re-released the albums re-mixed and re-mastered with four unreleased songs on one release. I am so happy they did, my old copies are about done. These guys deserved more attention and I hope they get it now as they are more than deserving of it! I compared my old cd's and this new one and there is a noticeable difference. This new release is more polished, sounds better, and is so darned good. If you like metal, particularly melodic death, get this, NOW! you won't be sorry. As long as I listen to metal these guys will never be dead to me.
