This is how it is done.,
This review is from: Dead Yuppies (Audio CD)
I've been waiting a long time for an album like this. Some recent albums like the last Rancid record, "Todays Empires/Tomorrows Ashes" by Propagandhi and "Suburban Blight" by f-minus gave me hope. But "Dead Yuppies" seals the deal. Right from the opening track "I Wanna Know" you know that your in for something great. While alot of newer punk/hardcore bands have gone the skate/pop punk route, or taken on a very metal slant, we seem to be left with a void: bands that play old school hardcore punk rock in the vien of bands like Black Flag and Negative Approach. I mean fast, hard riffs, brutal vocals that scream not grunt, intense lyrics about personnal and social topics without being pretentious and throw in some wicked speed-metal solos without being flashey. It's nice to know that some people get what that sound was about and want to keep it alive today. As for the actual album, there is little i can muster up that would come close to explaining how good it is."Club Girl" mows you over with its speed and very intelligent lyrics. "Alright" is like getting kicked in the head repeatedly. You've got a few oi!'sh tunes with "Liberty" and "Love to be hated", while the last two songs are classic style AF.Hopefully this will not be the last album of this type by this or any band. Maybe it will inspire a new generation of punks to head down this road and explore this sound once more. Chances are though they'll continue to buy Sum 41 and make copy cat slop of them.

Anyone who wants to buy the new Agnostic Front record will be pleased with their purchase as AF will give you exactly what you expect. For those awaiting a re-write of THEE classic AF record - 'Victim in Pain' - well, this is as close as the boys have come. Every song is raging, fast, 3 chords, with Miret's classic, indecipherable growl & plenty of old-school "gang" vocals all over the place. Yeah - it sounds like the guys could have written the whole record in one weekend - but it is definitely the best of the 3 "reunion" records. Those who have been fans of AF for almost 20 years now will know what to expect, and they'll love it. It will change no one's mind who's not a fan, though. The record cover is somewhat silly, and, in light of the 9/11 attack, a disclaimer sticker was put over the front cover. They're legends - if you're a fan of hardcore - you can't be without 'Victim in Pain', 'Cause for Alarm', or 'Liberty & Justice...'. This is a good addition to the legacy.

Their best yet,
This review is from: Dead Yuppies (Audio CD)
Well, i debated weather or not to pick this one up. Good thing i did, or i would have shot myself if i had heard it later on and not owened it. It's bloody amazing. THIS is what hardcore punk should be like. Fast, intense, brutal and meaningful. This album strips away all that is inessential and packs in all that is missing from most hardcore and punk bands around today. I love the fact that in almost every song they incorporate speed-metal solos, minus the showmanship that deflates it's power. It's just nuts. I've been waiting for awhile for an album like this to be made. The punk/hardcore scene seems to be overridden with either pop/skate-punk bands or death-metal hardcore type bands that forget what hardcore used to sound like when it was a vital force. Not that i have a problem with those other kinds of bands, but it seems like thats all that is being made these days. Rancid, Propagandhi and F-minus have all made albums within the last year that predicted this record, but this one outdoes them all. It's time that punk once again became dangerous, brutal and exciting, and harken back to the days of Negative Approach, Black Flag and Poison Idea. Hopefully this will be the start of something like that.

Yes, this album sounds like Agnostic was tryin a bit to replay their old school days, but you could sence that they were now older. Another Voice is way more brutal, but this is real vintage sounding 21st century NYHC. kEEP IT UP aGNOSTIC. aNY TRUE nyhc FAN THIS IS A MUST HAVE.

Agnostic Fronts dead yuppies in very impressive! The album starts off really fast and really aggresive! I didn't really like some of lyrics, i thought some songs had very childish lyrics, but the sound quality really makes up for this album! good stuff! the druming is similar to the vocals fast and aggresive, basically sticking to the good ol' hardcore punk scene that made them a band!

New York Hardcore/Oi! the Way It Should Be!,

For almost two decades, Agnostic Front's music has brought harsh aggression and power to the New York hardcore scene. Dead Yuppies is probably one of their best and most aggressive albums since the classic Cause for Alarm album. This album is the hardest thing around. The guitars wail like crazy and add to the aggression, while the drums supply an intense beat that makes you start wrecking stuff. All this mixed with Roger Miret's powerful voice, makes this album probably the most angry and hardest records on the Epitaph label. GET IT!

I listened to the audio samples here and liked them a lot better than the tracks on "riot". In my opinion nothing will beat their older albums like One Voice, LIVE at CBGB, and Victim IN Pain. As for the cover, big deal....these guys are part of the fabric of NYC. So lighten up. These guys are the real deal.

After the kinda dull Riot Riot Upstart this is kind of a relief actually. AF was softening. And why?! I dunno! What's more important is the fact that these guys still CAN kick a.ss. And this is the proof. Yes, all tracks may be quite similar so I'd rate it with 4 and a half stars but well, that's not an option, so I'll give em five. It's a very fast album, and I'd definitely advise this if you like old AF albums.

After d0wnloading the song "Uncle Sam" I knew I had to get this one. However, when I listened to it I discovered that the first 9 tracks all sounded almost EXACTLY THE SAME as Uncle Sam just different lyrics!!! There is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY slight changes in guitar notes, and different paces. The only real difference between them other than lyrics lied in the vocals. In fact I was thinking about dropping this a star due to the first nine tracks being the most repetitive thing I have EVER heard. My favorite of these look alikes would have to be the first one: "I Wanna Know".After the 9 tracks the song "Politician" appears. This is pretty different. It starts out with a long guitar solo. The guitar solo has that slow melodic sound Metallica sometimes has. Only it's punk of course. But ounce the vocals start it changes. It becomes more of something you would expect from the same CD as the first tracks but not the same as them. Next up is the song "Pedophile". This one sounds so much like the rap/metal band Papa Roach it's scary! Even the lyrics sound like Papa Roach. It's like a split cross between them and Agnostic Front. Then next up on track 12 is "Alright". This song sounds JUST like something that would have came off of the album "Suffer" by Bad Religion. Except it has Agnostic Front's voice of course. Then next is the title track: "Dead Yuppies". The verses to this song sound a little bit like the verses to "Victim of Reality" by Pennywise. However, the chorus I admit is pretty original. I guess it could also be compared to "Suffer" Bad Religion. Yeah, it's kind of like a cross between the general "Dead Yuppies" sound and Bad Religion's "Suffer". Finally there is "Standing On my Own". It sounds like something you would expect from the same CD as the first nine tracks but not the same thing like each of them. So even though this is a da:mn good album I would recommend picking up the new Pennywise CD before the new Agnostic Front CD if you don't already have it. If you are thinking of buying this, download the song "Uncle Sam" right here. If you like that song chances are you will like this entire CD. Happy CD buying!! |
