Dead Zeppelin: Painfully funny,
This review is from: Dead Zeppelin (Audio CD)
I bought this c.d. for my boyfriend who hates Led Zeppelin(which I love)but loves death metal in an attempt to fuse our musical styles together into something we could both appreciate. Although this album is not really a great quality one, it is funny as hell! Some of the songs just cracked me up! Especially the rendition of "Immigrant Song." Unlike most tribute albums, this one is kind of cool in the way that the artists covering the songs totally re-worked them, instead of just repetitively playing back the songs in their original form. Whether you are a hard-core death metal enthusiast, or a Zeppelin fan with a sense of humor, you are sure to enjoy this album. My boyfriend did!

An interesting take on a seminal influence for metal,

I am a big fan of Led Zeppelin. I am also a fan of metal. This album seems to be a fitting tribute by a number of less well known death metal bands to an important influence in all modern metal. I have to say that while I'm a huge fan of Zep, I do not seem them as some kind of sacred cow. So many of the other reviewers seem to feel that this is a humorous album. I do not think it is, as long as you can remember that while Led Zeppelin is a great band, they are just that - a band. These songs are a serious attempt at a tribute in my opinion, and it gives them short shrift to think of it as a joke. I like the interpretations of these classic Zep songs and found the effort worthwhile for both metal fans and for fans of Zep. I won't deny, you do have to be willing from the start to hear some classic songs re-interpreted and this can sometimes be off-putting to some hardcore Zep fans. I think they should give this album a chance. And to the people who reviewed it and didn't even hear the actual full album or even buy it, well, I can't say much more than for shame!

I don't care what other's think....I think it rules.,

It rules for me. Not every song is 100%, but I've never found myself fast-forwarding past any of the songs. That's remarkable on a compilation.
