Product Description

Mud Creek, Texas is doing alright—a real, thriving little community with a hotel, a café and a church, in addition to the livery and saloon. Seems like just the right sort of place for Reverend Jebidiah Mercer to pitch a tent and hold a revival. They shouldn’t have gotten together and lynched that Indian medicine man, though. They really shouldn’t have done that. It’s a good thing the Reverend can shoot, because in the dark of night, the dead of Mud Creek are rising… and they’re hungry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff, but preface misleading, December 14, 2011

This review is from: Dead in the West (Kindle Edition)
This is, as you'd imagine, a good and fun zombie western shoot-em-up with a twist of redemption. There are many reviews for the story itself around the net, but that sentence pretty much sums it up. Unfortunately, the preface appears to have been written for Deadman's Road, since in it Lansdale says that included are all of the Jeb Mercer stories. Well, this kindle edition only includes the single novel, not the short stories. Just FYI.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mojo Storytelling., December 28, 2011
This review is from: Dead in the West (Kindle Edition)
Dead in the West drew me in from the very beginning. I read this Lansdale classic in two sittings. The setting was so vivid the town of Mud Creek came to life instantly. Not to mention the characters were the ones you enjoy rooting for, and the bad guys were truly of that sort. If you're looking for something in the Western genre with a flare of Supernatural and Horror, Dead in the West will not disappoint.

Reverend Mercer is a God loving gunslinger, which isn't of the norm. He isn't afraid of violence if it means upholding his set of values. In turn, he is the only one who can stop what's happening in the small town. Along the way, there isn't a dull moment. Reading this novel felt like Joe R Lansdale was telling me the story himself. I would recommend it along with any of Lansdale's works.
