Book Description

January 1, 1985
Whether the Gospel of Barnabas is genuine or not is a question tied to another question -- whether Jesus is God incarnate or not. For if Jesus is not God, then the present gospels of the New Testament fall apart and the search for an authentic gospel becomes inevitable. The Dead Sea Scrolls, The Gospel of Barnabas and the New Testament does a commendable job of authenticating The Gospel of Barnabas and in the process opens up an entirely new field of research. The Dead Sea Scrolls, ever since their discovery in 1947, have meant many things to many. Contrary to evangelic claims, their discovery has brought no meaningful evidence to strengthen traditional Christianity based on the New Testament. The evidence presented so far is of a dubious nature and the rationale is flimsy to say the least. According to Yusseff's thesis, Jesus' coming did not call for the abolition of the Abrahamic faith or the institution of a new faith based on the vicarious sacrifice of a man-god. He consistently maintains that Jesus is a link in the continuation of the Hebrew tradition. This is an exceedingly important point because until his coming, the Abrahamic faith was confined to the narrow racial and parochial concerns of the Israelites. Jesus broadened their concerns and diluted their rigid confines. That this led to termination of the Israelite dispensation was inevitable. But universalizing the Abrahamic tradition by enlarging upon its laws was left to another son of Abraham, Muhammad (pbuh).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gospel of Barnabas, March 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dead Sea scrolls, the Gospel of Barnabas, and the New Testament (Paperback)
I found this book to be very helpful in understanding Jesus from a historical view. The information was well presented and sources were well-documented. An open minded reader seeking to understand the time period of Jesus' life and the influences that surrounded his people will enjoy the work. I would not recommend this book to a devout church going Christian, however, because it will fly in the face of all the church has ever taught you and it will also explain why. If you're the sort of person who only wants to read that which reinforces your own belief system, this book is not for you. If you are not that sort of person, perhaps this book will be right up your alley.I found it a fascinating read. The author does a wonderful job of authenticating the Gospel of Barnabas and I admire his obvious passion for seeking to understand the historical Jesus and for trying to reveal something I have also believed, namely: "I am the Lord your God and you shall have no other gods before me". M. A. Yusseff, may Allah's blessings be upon you, and keep up the search for truth as it conforms to the laws of God as handed down in the Torah.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very compelling historical account, December 31, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Dead Sea scrolls, the Gospel of Barnabas, and the New Testament (Paperback)
If you are searching or studying religions, this book will keep you awake at night! Just what did Jesus really ask of us, why is Christianity such a deviation from Judaism? All the clues are there provided you investigate. Using history, the Gospel of Barnabas and the Dead Sea Scrolls this book gives a riveting account of what took place during and after Jesus. The fighting, destruction and above all the power struggle. It can't be a mere concidence that the puzzle of Gods true message to man fits so well.
