3.0 out of 5 stars A Quick and Entertaining Read
David Whitman's novella Deadfellas is an entertaining and quick read. This story is not really horror as in horror scary; it's more like a walk through a Twilight Zone-themed carnival funhouse ride. DeadFella's is character-rich with a fairly good plot, lots of bizarre action and tons of humor.

David Whitman's Deadfellas is a book unlike any other book you'll ever read. Deadfellas is an intense roller coaster of a novel full of zombies and doubles and more action than a John Woo film. The characters are thrown into a bizarre series of events and are forced to react with utmost brutality, while still managing to maintain a dark sense of humor and the ability to laugh at the absurdity of life. Simply put: This book kicks ..., and you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romero zombies+SNATCH+Philip K. Dick, August 23, 2011
This review is from: Deadfellas (Kindle Edition)
What a mind-blowing and hallucinogenic read. This book moves so damn fast that it will give you a stroke. Funny as hell--and filled with zombies, doppelgangers, hit men, and buckets of blood. The scene where two of the Deadfellas attempt to retrieve a key from an underwater lake dwelling zombie scared me something fierce. Whitman is truly the real thing. Download this and you will read it in one sitting, I promise. Then start praying he will release DEADFELLAS 2 already! This work truly stands high in the world of zombies--highly unique and original.

5.0 out of 5 stars There are no words that can describe this amazing work!, May 10, 2011

David Whitman's Deadfellas is one of the quickest, most action paced, and mind altering reads that I have ever read. This quick read won't let you put it down from the moment you start, the array of comedy between the characters of surviving demons, zombies, and themselves, is so original that upon finishing a chapter, you'll say, "Ok, just one more." To not ruin this novella, take Pulp Fiction, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original, not that garbage new one), Night of the Living Dead, The Exorcist, and Einstein's Theory of Relativity, throw them all into a blender, and you'll have this brilliant work. Whitman is a fantastic horror writer, not to the extent of blood and gore, but the psychological horrors that so many people face on a day to day basis. Being the second piece of work I've read by Whitman, the first being Scary Rednecks & Other Inbred Horrors, an excellent collection of short horror stories that will have you laughing and cringing as you read, I didn't think there could be anything better than Scary Rednecks & Other Inbred Horrors, but Whitman pulled it off in Deadfellas. I laughed and felt extreme connections to the main characters as that many people can relate in emotion and psychologically as to what the characters are facing.

The easy and best explanation: If you like; time travel, mythology, demons, zombies, humor, irony, gangsters, and a total mind trip, then Deadfellas is a must read for you!

Vastly entertaining and somewhat convoluted in its concept, this is a fast read.....and well worth the experience.

I will not give the plot away - suffice to say it involves zombies and is like Catch 22 on steriods - a veritable "verbal" Escher!

After the first couple of chapters I wondered if he could keep the plot going - well he does, and also manages to end it gracefully!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pulp Fiction meets Night of the Living Dead on LSD, May 12, 2002

A very fast paced and entertaining read. I had no idea Mr. Whitman even existed until I picked Deadfellas up at a horror convention. I have to say that this is one very bizarre piece of work. If you like zombies then this is your book. I am looking forward to the promised sequel.
