Since the appearance of his first nautical thriller, Llewellyn ( Death Roll ) has enjoyed favorable comparisons to Dick Francis, employing his sailing background and experience as successfully as Francis has exploited the world of horseracing. Llewellyn also creates complex heroes whose clear strengths --and foibles--are a large part of each book's appeal. Just such a man is divorce lawyer Harry Frazer, whose new boat is damaged in a late-night collision off the west coast of Scotland, landing him in a situation rife with violence and murder. Both courageous and compassionate (he is sole support of a self-destructive sister), Frazer confronts a deadly environmental threat to the Scottish village where he ends up after his accident. His love for an American woman he meets there spurs some rather implausible heroics, culminating in a final confrontation with the unexpected villain in a nearby stone quarry. These Ludlum-esque goings-on add an unfortunate air of improbability to Llewellyn's resolution--but cannot seriously blemish a wonderful read.

A missing fisherman and an environmentalist blown to bits propel lawyer Harry Frazer across Switzerland, France, and Amsterdam tracking the contents of yellow shipping drums--until he ends up in a container of concrete and toxic waste bound for the bottom of the North Sea. Readers will be hooked by the fast-paced action and will roll along with the story, reading furiously to match the author's pace. Sailing races, a little romance, and a trek through an underground quarry are just a few of Harry's experiences in this very readable adventure starring a very likable fellow.

Sam Llewllyn captures the essence of rural oceanside Scotland, people who represent the salt of the earth and a salty dose of sailing vessels racing the oceans in this sailo-thriller. The main character is familiar with all of the aspects of actually travelling and living in Europe, a level of detail not usually found in modern literature. I for one have found a writer who focuses on my niche.

Yikes. If you're looking for a good read on holiday or on a long flight, this baby is for you. If you need to read about a max-testosterone kind of guy, whipping Mafia dudes and corporate scumbags single-handedly, racing boats in enormous destructive storms - here ya go! Plus the most beautiful girl in Scotland falls in love with him! But seriously, despite a bit of over-the-top action scenes, this was a very good, exciting read, and I do endorse it highly.
