Book Description

Citadel Underg Round October 1995
Unique photographs, personal recollections, and backstage stories mark a collection of memories from fans and friends of the Grateful Dead, including the eccentric and sometimes fascinating anecdotes and philosophies of band followers. Original.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Former Spin magazine writer Kelly assembled anecdotes from over 30 Grateful Dead followers ranging from the famous (LSD guru Timothy Leary) to Grateful Dead associates (sometime lyricist John Perry Barlow) to "typical" fans. Their stories do little to explain the band's cultlike mystique and, disturbingly, often seem as concerned with past acid trips as they are with the group's music. A few stories are gems, but most inadvertently perpetuate the stereotype of Deadheads as superficial and sleazy. Photographs of the band and Deadheads in action are as bland as the text. If the recent death of head Dead Jerry Garcia is generating demand, try instead the reissued Grateful Dead: The Official Book of the Deadheads (LJ 8/83).?Lloyd Jansen, Stockton-San Joaquin Cty. This is a classic and was rated by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the Top-Six books to own on the Grateful Dead. Timothy Leary, John Popper, John Barlow, Stanley Mouse and so many other characters share personal, funny, moving stories throughout. A MUST for any fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grateful Dead @ a bargan, January 1, 2005

This review is from: Deadheads: Stories from Fellow Artists, Friends, and Followers of the Grateful Dead (Citadel Underg Round) (Paperback)
I bought this book for $3.75 on a whim and I really enjoyed it. It just an insite into the life I wish I had. Unfortunatly there are no more Grateful Dead shows. Even Phish retired. Where do these deadheads head now?
