5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Soundtrack To A Great Show!
I love this CD. I have already bought two copies off Amazon and intend to order more as gifts for my I-pod challenged/hating pals. I think that being a fan of the show itself helps one to read more into the music on this soundtrack, but I don't think it's necessary. My favorites are "Paid", "Leavin'" and the one that everybody else loves and talks about, "Rain" - why...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Few Keepers...Throw the Rest Back
As a HUGE fan of the TV show "The Deadliest Catch", I was excited to see this compilation on CD. One of the best parts of the television show is the riveting background/incidental music. Paul Hepker & Bruce Hanifan seem to be the composers of most of the tracks, and they do a great job infusing some interesting percussion tracks, blues guitar, Irish jigs, and flute...

My favorites are "Paid", "Leavin'" and the one that everybody else loves and talks about, "Rain" - why hasn't this song really, really caught fire on the charts? It seems as though everybody I know has heard it, knows it's from the Captain Phil dies episodes...anyhow, I do think that it's a great collection of music and that it represents an outstanding show perfectly!

I bought this cd for a song I heard on the show "LEAVIN'" by Indeginous. Then found "RAIN" by Jon Heintz. Both songs are worth the price of the cd....EXCELLENT!!
There are other instrumentals that are good and recognizable from the show. I am a fan of Deadliest Catch and would reco. this cd for the same. "RAIN" is song they played at a memorial for Captain Phil I believe, very moving. "LEAVIN'" mixes a Hendrix & Stevie Ray Vaughn sound.

Some good music, but not everything you hear on the show. Worth the purchase however.

This is really some of the best music. I love the blend of styles and of course, I love the Northwestern/Maverick Theme. I'm happy I bought this!

4.0 out of 5 stars deadliest catch soudtrack- catch or release??, July 25, 2008
This review is from: Deadliest Catch (Audio CD)
First off everyone should know that the intro "Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi is NOT on cd. I knew this before buying though and purchased anyway hoping that some of the 'Norwegian' inspired backdrop music was included. Happy to say it is, and well worth the purchase alone(for me). As usual with soudtracks there are a few tracks (lyrical) wich leave you scratching your head. However they're not 'altogether' bad and somewhat Dire Straits in tone and texture. So if thats your sort of thing too it will only 'compliment' the sountracks overall experience; if not, skip to next track. All in all the cd DOES capture Dealiest Catches tone and feel with many of the 'backdrop' instrumentals serving this purpose. Most people should enjoy this cd. With the usual 'unexpected mix' of tracks that almost always accompanys soundtracks some will be more pleased than others obviously, depending on taste. But other than intro theme songs absence (Dead or alive) I dont think 'anyone' would be 'altogether' disappointed with the purchase/product/experience. Go for it!!!!

As a HUGE fan of the TV show "The Deadliest Catch", I was excited to see this compilation on CD. One of the best parts of the television show is the riveting background/incidental music. Paul Hepker & Bruce Hanifan seem to be the composers of most of the tracks, and they do a great job infusing some interesting percussion tracks, blues guitar, Irish jigs, and flute. Tracks like "A Deadly Catch", "Western Theme/Lucky Lady", "Let it Soak", "Northwestern/Maverick Theme" and "Pot of Gold/Shanty" are all stand out tracks that are recognizable from the show. Quick little instrumentals that really help set the tone of the program, and the real reason fans of the show will want this disk. Sprinkled throughout are some songs which have been played on various episodes, and truth be told they are more "miss" than "hit". "Paid" by the Supersuckers kind of sounds like a John Cafferty rock tune, not bad, but not much replay value. "The Storm" kind of sounds like a watered down Bruce Springsteen song that just kind of sits there. Vienna Teng's "Between" is a really good song, that sounds kind of like a 90's Tori Amos song. The haunting vocals make this one stand out. "Leavin" by Indigenous is another solid tune built around a fantastic blues riff on the guitar. "Rain" by John Heintz is 5:05 of pure suck. Just a boring, dull tune. "Til the End" by The Living End (which isn't available for preview here) is a lame punk-wannabe type of tune that sounds as though someone is trying to imitate the "Dropkick Murphys"...but they don't have the talent.

I wish the album were set up with all of the incidental music either lumped together at the beginning or the end of the disk, instead of sprinkled around these other songs. As it is, you'll be hitting the Skip button quite often when you have this disk in the CD player. Still if you are a fan of the show, you'll probably enjoy this disk. And if you are looking for "Dead of Alive" by Bon Jovi...pick up "Slippery When Wet", cause you won't find that tune on here....and because "Slipper When Wet" is an awesome slice of 80's hair metal.
