4.0 out of 5 stars The DEADLINE puts life into hiphop's flatline!!, September 27, 2006
This review is from: Deadline (Audio CD)
If ever there was an m.c. that has the potential to rekindle rap's "golden era" SUPASTITION is that man. 2years after his "7years Of Bad Luck" debut he dropped this mini-album (7 new tracks, an intro plus 2 previously released singles) as a teaser leading up to his 1st full length on Soulspazm "Chain Letters". After the brief intro, "Boombox" explodes through the speakers with an amazing Illmind produced beat that captures Supa's breath-taking flows brilliantly. Both "Fountain Of Youth", "I Remember" and "Homecoming" are very nostalgic, reminiscing about the good old days of hiphop, his childhood, how it was for him before he made it and how he reps his hometown. Beautifullly jazz crafted beats back these joints with perfect results. "Soul Searching" and "If I Knew" are personal tales from Supa's life about his baby's mother and how people treated him before he made it and now they are basically kissing his a**. "Nowhere To Run" is just a track for him+his crew to spit on and catch wreck over a Madwreck produced beat. The cd ends withs with the 2 previously released tracks "Step It Up" and "Adrenaline". The 1st is a stripped back breakbeat with horns and snares coming in+out to add a nice touch while Supa tears the joint down with fantastic wordplay. However the real gem of this release is "Adrenaline", a high energy track that captures exactly what great hiphop really is. An excellent addition to any hiphop fan's collection. Get this plus his other 2 cd's "7years Of Bad Luck" and "Chain Letters", you wont regret getting any of them.

4.0 out of 5 stars For a Select Few, August 2, 2006
This review is from: Deadline (Audio CD)
All fans of the golden era know hip hop is lacking today. There is no meaning, feeling, or emotion. Supastition returns emotion and spirituality back to hip hop providing a saving grace.

I was very impressed by the balance on this album. Tracks like "soul searching" & "if i knew" focus on spiritual/personal reflection while "i remember" and "step it up" expose the falsified image of both the present version of an mc and producer.

Very few albums you can listening to beginning to end, but this provides a strong listen and i havent said that since the foreign exchange album. unfortuenatly this is only 10 songs, so it provides a more concise arguement. My only negitive remark is that Supastition can't sing hooks.

As a person who believes images portrayed in "rap" provide a negitive roll model and contribute for a lack of motiviation within its current fanbase, it is nice to see an artist who acts as a guiding light. if you are looking to gain something from hip hop (which i dont see why else you would listen to music), this is a great album, but if you just listening for entertainment you are not part of the "select few" who should own this cd.

peace

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Stuff, January 4, 2005
This review is from: Deadline (Audio CD)
Much underappreciated, I wanna hear more from this guy. I like the beats, although the singles kind of run together in my head (instrument wise), but that's just at a couple listens. Nice lyrics, nothing outrageous, bad, just good music.
