From Library Journal
This collection of Williamson's writings during the 1980s includes not only reviews but interviews, introductions for film series, conference discussions, and more. Interestingly, the material is arranged according to her different types of approaches, modes of writing, or ways of discussing films. For example, the section "Ways of Showing" contains introductions and program notes for several film series on TV and in theaters. Williamson is concerned with writing about films rather than film itself, promoting a new form of film criticism: "That people should know a little more after reading a review, not just about the film in question but about film as a medium." She sees several faults in current movie criticism, which she discusses very well. In fact, every piece in the book shows sharp perception, keen insight, and an understanding of film. Highly recommended for academic and subject collections.
