1.0 out of 5 stars "DEADLINES" flatlines., August 15, 2011

This review is from: Deadlines: an Anthology of Horror and Dark Fiction (Paperback)
Unbelievable. Unbelievably bad, that is. Nor can I believe the "glowing" reviews which must've been posted by some of the writers of this awful book. Five stars? Seriously??? I think one star is too generous. I have to say, this book has me really scared though. Scared to buy another horror anthology book again.

Generally, I love horror anthology reads and can usually find at least half the stories interesting. Unfortunately, I couldn't find even one story that I enjoyed here. These stories seemed to be written by 7th graders given a "deadline" to write campfire stories that are more laughable than scary. I kept expecting some "twist" or something to make it worth my while, but I was sorely disappointed. Each story fell flat. The writing, the character dialogue, the whole set up of each story was totally bland. Many of them I couldn't even finish reading, I was so bored.

"Modern terror? Rising stars of horror and dark fiction?" Heaven help us. I've seen more horror in a Grimm Brother's fairytale than in this book. The only horror here is how "HORRIBLE" the writing is. I recommend that you leave this one on the bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doug Murano's "Harry" is scary, November 5, 2008
This review is from: Deadlines: an Anthology of Horror and Dark Fiction (Paperback)
I would highly suggest this anthology to all horror lovers. I enjoyed THE DEATH OF LESTER WILLIAMS by Ty Johnstone, but I especially liked the story HARRY by Doug Murano. Mr. Murano's story left me with goose bumps. It also made me think that maybe my dog Sally really does see invisible visitors. Spooky! I was also excited to discover, upon some research of Doug Murano, that he has an awesome podcast available for free download at Well Told Tales. Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cameron Mitchell's story makes it worth the purchase., October 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Deadlines: an Anthology of Horror and Dark Fiction (Paperback)
I was lucky enough to read one of the stories contained in this anthology of horror stories before it went to publication. A close friend of mine (Cameron Mitchell) has a story included in this collection. His story "Girl in the Tub" is creepy and quite an enjoyable read. It alone is worth the price of the book.
