SOUTHERN GORGEOUS

SOUTHERN CHARISMA

SOUTHERN PSYCHO

Tye Dompier was the man that every girl wanted: from the white columns of his family's mansion to his handsome face, he had it all, money, charm, a wild light in his ice-blue eyes. He charmed pretty Angie Thornton the day she moved to Moon Lake, Mississippi, and set eyes on him.

But Angie was young and innocent — too young to get involved with a man as serious as Tye.

So she refused his advances — and learned the hard way that refusing Tye Dompier was a dangerous mistake.

On the shores of the languid, fogshrouded lake, Tye came to stalk Angie — and when he trapped her, there was no one to hear her cries.

And no hope of Justice in a county his family had run for generations.

More About the Author

I am a thriller, suspense, and horror novelist. My books were first published in 1984 and two of them received an Edgar Award Nomination for best novel and a Bram Stoker Award Nomination for most superior novel. I was represented by the William Morris Agency, belonged to many professional writing organizations, and even wrote columns and reviews in magazines. When anthologies were big, I was a regular contributor and have more than 150 short stories published. For a spell I taught writing for Writer's Digest and for AOL online. I was born in Alabama and live now in Texas on a small ranch.

My work has been predominately suspense thrillers, but I also wrote a western historical, a trilogy of vampire novels, a travel memoir, and, of course, many short stories. My latest novel is BANISHED, a dark fantasy horror novel involving fallen angels. Most of my work has been made available at kindle.com for the e-book reader, including my Stoker-nominated novel, WIDOW, and my Edgar-nominated novel, NIGHT CRUISING.

I love to read (especially on my Kindle), paint, take photographs, and travel. I can name two inspiring persons in my life. One was my grandmother, Naomi. And, every day and forever, my husband, who has lived this adventure with me.

Because of a lifelong love of storytelling, I've been able to make a lifelong investment in writing those stories and novels.

1.0 out of 5 stars Because you can't give less than one star..., February 28, 2007
This review is from: Deadly Affections (Paperback)
This book was poorly written and implausibly plotted. I don't know how this book was published, but it is by far the silliest book I've ever read. Its clear the writer had no understanding of how to write a novel, how police handle investigations, how murderers think, or how readers relate to characters.

The tragic part is that there are some gems, if you slog through the swill. There are glimpses of decent writing, as when the main character makes a sharp, poignant observation about the world ("Nothing in life ever seemed to be fair. Mothers died. Boys raped. Negroes picked the cotton.")

Its sad that the book is so thin on sensible plot or interesting psychology, because its clear the author had a little something. Mosiman neglected to make me give a damn about any of the characters except Varna, the black lady living in a shack, who quotes Shakespeare and plays Chess by herself. That character was the start of something good in a book full of MEH.

Psychosis isn't interesting when its has no context. Even Jason and Freddy create mayhem for a reason. They have a catalyst that makes them interesting. Tye has no redeeming qualities, isn't particularly charming or intriguing. He's dime-store evil, which isn't really scary at all.

I hope Billie Sue Mosiman has improved since writing this book, because its actually embaressing to read.
