Book Description

The critically ill daughter of the governor of California has been kidnapped. LAPD Detective Maddie Divine is assigned to find her before it’s too late. But this high-profile case comes with secrets on every side: cops, politicians, even the innocent.

Maddie Divine: Her marriage hangs by a thread, her SWAT-officer husband has lost it, and almost as bad, she can’t trust her detective partner.

Travis Divine: After the death of a SWAT teammate, he’s a shell of the man he used to be. He’s lost touch with his work, his wife and occasionally even reality. Can he regain the warrior mentality needed to support Maddie and do his job?

Preston Truesdale: The California governor’s daughter has gone missing, and so has her only bone marrow donor. Is it coincidence or something more sinister?

Pilar Luna: The mayor of Los Angeles is a media favorite, and she plays Preston like a Vegas pro would play a Midwestern farmboy…all in hopes of reaching the White House. Will she hit the jackpot?

Tiffany Truesdale: The brainiac teenager evaded her security team to spend a night on the town with her girlfriends, but can she outwit the man who kidnapped her before time runs out?

A Deadly Blessing is a lightning-paced story of suspense that will keep readers on edge from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars The e-reader House Review of A Deadly Blessing June 10, 2012

BOOK REVIEW - A Deadly Blessing by Kathy Bennett

To celebrate getting to 900 `Likes' on The e-reader House page we chose 4 of the authors from our Author Listing at random and agreed to review one book for each of them throughout June. This is the first of those reviews.

I am totally a `binge reader', I can go weeks not reading a book but then when I do I tend to read the whole book in one or two days. This was totally a one day book - a sure sign that I enjoyed it and found it easy to lose myself in the story. It is a good, imaginative crime story. Some parts I guessed the outcome, other parts took me by surprise and that combination worked well for me.

The book is well written and, consequently, easy to read. I have a very small criticism in that I initially found going into the first person for the chapters about Maddy (the heroine) when all the other chapters were in the third person a bit distracting. Actually I got used to it quite quickly but for me it didn't add anything to the story.

The characters were believable, as you would expect from a retired LAPD officer writing about officers in the LAPD! Actually they were so believable that I almost felt they slipped over into being too stereotypical but that is being very harsh.

I enjoyed the pacing of the book and the way Kathy wove the different elements together. It was easy to get into the story and at no point was reading it anything other than pleasurable.

So - Was it worth the money? - Definitely, at 99cents it is probably underpriced. Will I read more books by Kathy Bennett? - Again that has to be a yes. Would I recommend others to read it? - If you enjoy a good detective story then yes. Finally how many stars will it get from me on Amazon? - Not surprisingly it has to be a 5. Which I think makes it 8 reviews - all 5 star!

Now I'm off to enter the competition on Kathy's website as I want the `official LAPD coffee mug'

5.0 out of 5 stars A Deadly Blessing is also a Keeper! April 23, 2012
By Roz Lee
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
After reading Bennett's first book, A Dozen Deadly Roses, I was expecting another romantic suspense in A Deadly Blessing. Boy was I surprised, and pleasantly so! Her first book was good - a keeper by anyone's standards, but Bennett has found her voice in this one. Fans of the old Dragnet series will love the 'Just the facts, ma'am,' delivery from LAPD Detective Maddie Divine, sprinkled with enough stress relieving humor and suspense to keep you turning the pages.
*mini-spoiler here, so skip to the bottom if you don't want a hint*
I have to admit to some misgivings regarding the ending, but I'm a romantic at heart and can't help wanting everyone to live happily ever after. Since this isn't a romance, it took me a while to put that aside and accept that the end is what it is, and as in most police procedural type stories not everything works out the way we want it to.
*mini-spoiler is over, you can jump back in now!*
All things considered, the ending will satisfy the suspense junkie and keep the romance junkie coming back to see if Bennett can turn things around for her character in the next book. *fingers crossed* Did I mention that I'm a hopeless romantic?

5 Stars - A Deadly Blessing is also a Keeper.

I totally loved the book, "A Deadly Blessing" though the ending took me for a loop which I was not expecting. When I was reading and got through three-fourths of the book, I could not understand where the title of the book fit in. But once I got to the end it was totally clear. I also could not believe how fast I was turning the pages. "A Deadly Blessing" totally kept my interest and I felt I was sitting on the edge afraid something was going to happen that I did not want to happen.

Once you pick this book up and start reading you will not put it down until you are finish!

Can't wait for the next Kathy Bennett book!!!
