A Kate Kinsella Mystery
A chance meeting with an old schoolfriend takes Kate Kinsella to Cornwall. Although madly in love with her fianci, Helen is apprehensive about marrying him not least because his former wife apparently killed herself and their two children. She is convinced that the house is haunted. Though Kate is sceptical, before long she is up to her neck in another dangerous adventure . . .

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Thirtysomething private eye Kate Kinsella, her landlord and colleague Hubert Humberstone, and her spunky terrier Jasper make an entertaining Nora-Nick-Asta trio as they journey to Cornwall, sparring all the way. Kate's old school chum, Helen, who has settled down in Cornwall and plans to marry the dashing Paul Warriner, invites Kate and another of their school friends, Gill, to visit while Paul is away, and both women soon worry about what Helen is getting into. Paul's first wife, Fran, supposedly killed herself and their two children, but was Paul responsible? As Kate, Hubert, and Gill investigate Paul, they discover many unpleasant facts about the groom-to-be--and put their own lives in danger. A subplot about Paul's house being haunted fizzles out early on, but the story doesn't suffer without it. By far the most enjoyable part of this series is watching Kate's relationships develop, particularly with funeral director and sleuthing partner Hubert. A highly suspenseful plot combined with Kate and Hubert's witty repartee makes this one deadly fun. Jenny McLarin
