5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly entertained, July 30, 2009
This review is from: Deadly Competition (Without a Trace, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have just finished Rozanne Rustand novel Deadly Competition and I really enjoyed it. I plan on finding the other books in "Without a Trace" series and read them too. I enjoyed her characters that were very believable, even those moments when they offered a quick pray for strength and guidance. I also ask for strength and guidance when I feel overwhelmed.

The small town setting, people stopping to visit after church Loomis, LA seemed just like home. The Mother of the Year Contest was interesting, and the "warring old biddies" I want to know if there is more of their story in the other novels of this series.

If you are looking for a good story with interesting twist and turns I recommend Deadly Competition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great series, April 27, 2010
This review is from: Deadly Competition (Without a Trace, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this series. I don't think I had read very books by Roxanne Rustand. This is a great way to get to know authors you had only read a little or never read before. I love the way the books just kept one little clue a secret while building to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth reading!, July 10, 2009
This review is from: Deadly Competition (Without a Trace, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Deadly Competition by Roxanne Rustand is a wonderful read. A true inspirational romance. The plot moves swiftly, the characters are true to form. When Clint needs a nanny, Mandy answers the ad. The suspense is built when we learn that Mandy's past is about to catch up with her, Clint's sister disappears and the child Sara has seen something she cannot reveal. Set in the bayou, Ms. Rustand's descriptions are wonderful. Her unique brand of humor shines! It's a quick read as it's impossible to put down until you get to the end. Loved the "Mother of the Year" contest. The two old warring biddies were great. The cliffhanger ending makes you rush to read the next book. If you haven't read the "Without A Trace" series, you'll find them enjoyable reads. Ms. Rustand is a very talented author. You definitely can't go wrong with any of her great books. Grab some popcorn and settle in for a fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Summer Read!, July 1, 2009
This review is from: Deadly Competition (Without a Trace, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
By nature a marvelous and often overlooked writer, Roxanne Rustand has produced another emotional thriller. Her strong, fascinating characters are complex and realistic. The swift-moving plot is filled with Rustand's wonderful mix of humor, character development and ever-growing suspense. This is the kind of novel you begin at night and end up reading till dawn. Definitely worth the lack of sleep! Disregard all other reviews, this is a terrific read from a superbly talented author! Try it out this summer, you certainly won't be disappointed (maybe a little drowsy) Happy reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars A single mother is missing..., May 25, 2009
This review is from: Deadly Competition (Without a Trace, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
A single mother has vanished and her daughter, Sarah, now lives with Clint Herald, her uncle. He puts out an ad for a nanny and his ad is answered by the mysterious Mandy Erick, who bonds with Sarah quickly. However, Mandy isn't all that she seems to be and her past catches up with her as the search for Sarah's mother intensifies.

Mandy's past involves an abusive boyfriend who is a policeman in a small town and who finds her after Clint enters Mandy in the Mother of the Year contest. Also in the contest, in a boring subplot, are two warring women who are the 'high society' of a small backwater Louisiana town. Ladies, this isn't New York or even New Orleans. Get over yourselves.

The novel ends in a cliffhanger and will presumably be continued in the next book in the "Without a Trace" series. A good read, especially the ending, but not great.
