The thing that is most fun about this book is finding the unexpected: a Sherlockian group in Japan (The Men with the Twisted Konjo); the L.A. Coroner's Gift Shop (Skeletons in the Closet); a news service that specializes in crime, justice, and safety reports (APB News); a group of forensic professionals who donate their time to solve "cold cases" (The Vidoq Society). This year I asked mystery booksellers to share the name of the store mascot, and got cats named Nick and Nora, a dog named Archie Goodwin, and a skeleton named Sam, among others. I've corresponded with people all over the world in the course of bringing together this information, and it seems that mystery fiction is universally popular in any language.

This is the only directory of all booksellers, organizations, products, web sites, email discussion lists, and publications related to mysteries. If you love mysteries you will love the Deadly Directory. It also has the most comprehensive index in the world. Excellent for locating reading groups, mystery bookstores, people you met a the last convention, author newsletters, hard to find books, mystery tours and weekends, museums, Raymond Chandler's letters. Anything that exists related to mystery fiction can be found with the Deadly Directory.

Useful reference for publishers,

My copy of the Deadly Directory is well worn, having been used countless times in my job as a book publicist. The section on reviewers is wonderfully helpful, giving you new contact names of freelancers that you may not reach by just sending to a newspaper. As with any directory though, it is important to follow up and confirm addresses before sending; many contact names and addresses chnge on a regular basis. Overall, highly useful and recommended resource.
