Editorial Reviews

Review

It gets five stars and is worth five more. The copy flows like soft water in a gentle rain, seamless and smooth, all the while carrying the reader to the next page in breathless anticipation. --Mike Dobbins, Editor-Publisher, The Wildwood Independent

The litmus test for anything I buy is, Did I get my money's worth? Deadly Dividends paid a dividend of satisfaction... And since my spouse also enjoyed it, it was a two-for-one reward. --Larry Bailey, Reviewer-Biographer, Penn Valley Courier, TWI

From the Author

Author's Note: Unless you're a collector of First Editions, I would highly recommend skipping this one and going to the updated version, "Escape!", with 70 more pages, a restyled cover, and deeper plot and character development.  Not to mention a far better price tag.

More About the Author

David Emil Henderson began his journalism career in 1960s magazines, when he crafted personal interviews with Henry Fonda, Barbra Streisand, Robert Preston, Charlton Heston, and other luminaries, along with a broad range of news and features.

As editor for a Chicago suburban newspaper chain owned by Time, Inc., Henderson directed the editorial content of five newspapers, including The Evanston Review, chosen by a national newspaper publishers' association as First in the Nation for General Excellence. Later, as editor and publisher of a Montana newspaper, he won the state press association's top awards for editorial writing, column writing, feature stories, and news reports.

In California, he created national print and video marketing programs for nine San Francisco Bay Area daily newspapers, including those owned by Gannett, The Tribune Company, Media News Group, and The New York Times. Henderson now owns a small-market publishing enterprise in Northern California. It's here that he envisions an enclave of talented writers sharing resources to achieve their goals.

David Emil Henderson, not to be confused with several other authors named David Henderson, has published two novels as of January 2013. They include:

!. "Escape!", a romantic thriller that hurries to keep pace with Architect Grey Harper and his dazzling companion, Elissa Bennett Pope, as they race 2250 miles from a Fort Sheridan, Illinois crime scene to a cliff-top climax on the California coast.

2. "Montana Midnight," a tense and often humorous portrait of a small town caught in a fiery clash between environmental militants and corporate kingpins. Rich in local lore and characterizations, it's drawn from Henderson's busy decade of publishing the news in the nation's fourth-largest state.

Henderson also served as editor and publisher of "So Brave... So Quiet... So Long!", an anthology of heroes by the late Larry T. Bailey, a former telecom executive who devoted many of his "retirement" years to civic and humanitarian causes. "So Brave..." tells 34 stories of extraordinary men and women who helped save our nation from WWII to the Cold War -- and then went home to continue their service in outstanding civilian ways. Profits from this book have been pledged to Rotary International to help serve the goal of world peace and prosperity.

The author has a nice style that doesn't get in the way, while drawing the story in a way that allows the mind to move into it.

I was looking for a book that would be a fun read & capture my attention immediately. First of all the cover grabbed my eye! Then when I read the description, it sounded like I would be taken on an exciting & thrilling adventure. That it does! I couldn't put it down & looked forward to every turn of suspense, intrigue & the sexy relationship between the star characters. The author's writing style brings you along for the chase with your heart beating faster along with the characters! An exciting read from an accomplished author!

I was attracted to the book cover and this was an author I was unfamiliar with, so I took a chance, based on the excellent reviews. This was one of the best books I have read in a long time - the story was original and suspenseful, the characters likeable and interesting, and the romantic aspect of the story was well done. I did not want the story to end. It hooked me immediately, unlike so many books that you have to let grow on you. There was just the right mixture of lots going on but easy to follow the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this clever story. As the pages slowly unraveled the mystery, they were also building the romance, while at the same time deftly describing the countryside through which the characters travelled, giving the feeling that you are right there along with them. There are some great surprises, the dialogue is smart and funny, and it's fun to root for the relatable characters through the suspense. A fast-paced modern thriller!

David emil Henderson's work is new to me, but I couldn't put "Deadly Dividends" down! The work travelled country that I know, and the references are well researched, so it was a pleasant narrative to begin with, but I felt drawn into the characters, and felt that I knew them. The author has a nice style that doesn't get in the way, while drawing the story in a way that allows the mind to move into it. I'll look forward to another of Mr. Henderson's novels!
