5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, September 13, 2010
This review is from: Deadly Exchange (Paperback)
This is the kind of popular novel I really enjoy. I love the way it can be read on so many different levels. A teenager can enjoy it as a straight forward action adventure book with a martial arts trained hero. Older readers can take pleasure in all the clever metaphors woven into the story. As the story progresses it makes lots of sharp observations on the corporate world, technology, power without accountability and the struggle to be true to you own nature in the modern world. The book is especially strong when observing the different way men and women speak and drawing some humorous moments from it. In conclusion a very accessible book that should appeal to a wide audience.

4.0 out of 5 stars it's Like Reading an Episode of 24..., July 30, 2009
This review is from: Deadly Exchange (Paperback)
Reading this book was like reading a season of 24, except that these events took place across more time than just one day. I have to admit that it was a little difficult to get settled into this book--because it is written from multiple points of view and shifts settings as events unfold, it can be a little difficult to follow at times. However, once I got comfortable it was a fascinating, riveting read... Gluckman's knowledge of the government, its agencies, and military technology is impressive! Not to mention, his plot twists keep you on the edge of your seat!

I don't know about all of you, but for me well-developed characters are extremely important in creating an enjoyable book. Gluckman succeeded many times over with his character development in Deadly Exchange. Frank and Jennifer are very believable, but I can't say much without giving away an important part of the story. And as for the "bad guys," Walter Jones in particular--you love to hate them! The addition of the various Rastafarian boys added another element of interest to the "cast."

If you enjoy political thrillers or the TV show 24, I think you would enjoy this book. Even though it started slow for me, the subject matter was so fascinating I couldn't help but enjoy Deadly Exchange.

A New Age Robert Ludlum style saga. A very enjoyable read. If Mr. Gluckman writes another one I'll read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very plausible scenario, June 20, 2009
This review is from: Deadly Exchange (Paperback)
World-renowned motivational speaker Jennifer Chance is the face of Lectures and More, Inc. For five years she's been the protégé of Ulrich Rogers and has brought the company the success it's been craving but behind the scenes Rogers and his co-conspirator, Dr. Jones, are up to something more sinister.

Of late, Jennifer has grown more and more weary of the speeches she's been making and yearns to take a much needed break from work. After a speech one night in San Diego she meets Frank. A tentative friendship grows between the two based on a strange connection they both feel towards each other. Frank is a retired government operative who is finally ready to move on after losing the love of his life five years ago when he meets Jennifer.

As Jennifer makes plans to spend her sabbatical from Lectures and More, Inc. with Frank, it becomes clear that something is not right within the company and the pair work closely with a select group to uncover the horrifying truth. Lectures and More, Inc is looking at more than just motivating the masses. Their goal is total mind control using radio frequency identification devices (RFID).

One word...CREEPY. Ok one more word... PLAUSIBLE. Yikes. You've all seen them. Those annoying little plastic tags that come on most electronic devices, DVD and CDs. That's an RFID tag that stores use to track inventory from the warehouse through the purchase. But they can do a whole lot more. Just look at all the uses from the Wiki page and tell me this doesn't freak you out just a little.

Aside from the creep factor, Gluckman put together a great thriller. The book starts in a little awkward in two ways. First, some conversations between characters seemed a bit forced. It didn't flow very well and initially that was a bit of a turn off until the action picked up and the interactions made sense. Second, with so many players in the mix it was hard to remember who was who but once I got them straight the pages flew by a lot quicker. I found this an enjoyable thriller mostly based on the plausibility of the plot. Big Brother is out there!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read, May 25, 2008
This review is from: Deadly Exchange (Paperback)
An exciting and compelling read, I really enjoyed The Deadly Exchange. Once you meet the characters you fall right into the plot and can't let go. What's so mind boggling is that this thriller is the real deal in terms of technology. Today's tech. (or maybe yesterdays by now) is something we should all know about and this book is a fun easy way to take a crash course. You won't want to put it down.

This book was phenomenal. I'm not normally one for reading spy thrillers or US espionage but I really LOVED this work! The dialogue was written in a unique style that helped with character development (you felt like you knew each character inside and out by the end of the book)

Most importantly it has an intriguing storyline, and a great ending!

I would recommend it to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deadly Exchange, July 16, 2007
This review is from: Deadly Exchange (Paperback)
Deadly Exchange grabs you early and doesn't let go. This highly original thriller is much more than page turner--it is subtle but trenchant social commentary on values and personal priorities in the age of consumerism and greed. Gluckman delivers a first-rate story that leaves his readers both thinking and wanting more--a rare treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deadly Exchange, April 21, 2008

Geoff Gluckmans first book is a masterpiece. His writing is right up there with Vince Flynn and James Patterson. I hope he continues to write using his characters; Frank and Sara in future adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting Thriller, April 8, 2011
This review is from: Deadly Exchange (Paperback)
Traumatic pasts, seemingly innocuous telephone tampering, and world renowned motivational speakers are just the beginning of this thrilling story of espionage and lost love. Be on your toes as the characters unfold and hints to their true identities and motives are revealed. We witness the growth of our favorite characters, redemption for some, and destruction of others. All while a secret plot to take over the world and take our very freedom is poised for success. The most unsettling part of the story is its believability, with modern day social sentiments and sinister technologies.

The author draws you into each scene, with descriptions that have you feeling the ocean breeze and walking the streets of Paris. His writing technique keeps you on a time trajectory while bouncing between story lines keeps you as unsettled as the characters. It's a book you won't want to put down. And I can't wait to see this on the silver screen.
