About the Author
John Preston is the author of more than forty books including the acclaimed novel Franny, the Queen of Provincetown, the notorious erotic masterpiece Mr. Benson (Badboy), and the Alex Kane adventure series (Badboy). He has also edited a series of critically acclaimed anthologies beginning with Personal Dispatches: Writers Confront AIDS (St. Martin's Press), and including Hometowns: Gay Men Write About Where They Belong (Dutton/Plume), Flesh and the Word: An Erotic Anthology (Dutton/Plume), and A Member of the Family: Gay Men Write About Their Families (Dutton/Plume). His own writing has been represented in countless other anthologies and Franny the Queen of Provincetown has been adapted for the stage in over twelve different productions. A regular columnist for Lambda Book Report, he contributes regularly to a wide range of gay and literary publications, and he is a former editor of The Advocate (the largest gay and lesbian magazine in the United States). He was the founder and director of the first lesbian and gay community center and the founder and director of the first gay and lesbian counseling center to receive federal grants (both in Minneapolis). Preston, who had AIDS, was also the former president of the board of directors of The AIDS Project in southern Maine. John Preston's manuscripts are part of the collection of the John Jay Library at Brown University.
